Tint - What Brand? Mole Skin? Price?
Hey all,
To all who've tinted their RL's, I've got some questions and hopefully this can become a resource for others wanting to tint.
What brand tint did you use?
What percentage tint, and what color?
Which method did they use to apply the tint? (Some shops can remove the window panes and bake the tint on them, Some will just apply tint and let it air dry, Some will precut their tint from a template, Some wont remove the door panels, some will, etc)
Is your Navi still accurate?
What did you do about the felt on the window sills? Mole skin?
How much did you pay and where did you get it done?
Thanks!

I honestly don't remember what brand tint it was.
35%
He cut it on the window - did a damn good job also! Used a heat gun to dry it on there.
Navi is still perfect
No mole skin needed here... not yet at least (I have had it for a couple months now) knock on wood.
The dealer did it part of the cost of the car (paid 45k for the car) - the tint guy said normally $350 (seems kind of high to me though).
I can find out what brand tint it was if you need me to.

I can't remember the other one. They are the only two companies that have cermaic films.
The others use films with metal or nothing. The metal films look good and block more heat then without but they can kill your cell phone reception and in some cases your radio reception. The non-metalic will not hurt your reception but they don't block as much heat.
Ceramic films block the most heat in the industry and don't hurt reception.
The Huper Optik website is really bad for finding a dealer. You have to inquire then they are supposed to email you back the nearest distributor. I never got an email back so I just picked up the phone.
I have Huper on my car, and I love it. It takes longer to instal and for to dry. So you have to put up with the bubbles for upto 4 weeks as appossed to just 2 but I think its worth it. It cost me 450 bucks.

20%, carbon film all the way around except for front windshield.
Looks great. Nav/XM work great.
Except I just recently got a citation for dark tint so will be replacing w/ 35% shortly. boo!!

There are several major brands out there but only 2 I think are worth using. Huper Optik from Germany. US site is www.huperoptik.com.

I have 35% as seen in the picture.
it gives your car a classy look.
Dont cheap out and "limo tint" your RL.
this tint cost me $360 but well worth it in the Texas sun!
it also took longer to dry than traditional tint.
it took up to a month to get every last bubble out.

I did solargard non-metallic. 35% all around, but I believe it is technically at 38%. It was precut and was air-dried after install. $220 for all 5 windows by a reputable shop.

Llumar ATR 30% on front, 5% on all back windows. $220 at Shade Shop in Austin. They used a template and let it air dry. I couldn't roll down the windows for 3 days. Lifetime warranty at any Llumar dealer. They said I would lose AM reception because of the metalized, but I don't notice a difference. Nav works fine. Cell reception is still good.
Guess I'm a "cheap" guy for going 5% (BS), but with Texas heat, you can't have too much shade. It also helps with security since no one can see in my back seat.

^ HAHAHA, hopefully TLMaster1 didn't realize he was answering a 5 1/2 year old question. I was just starting to dream about RL's when this was opened.

See my signature for the percentage.
I used Lluhmar (sp?)
Mine was done when I lived back in the north Chicago Suburbs. The name was Tintworks and he came right to my garage. Cut it on the window and he did remove the panels. Did a great job.
No moleskin and no issues after almost five years.
I think I paid then around $220.
