Timing is everything.
Timing is everything.
Timing is everything.
Many posts during the past few months have decried the state of Acura sales as well as the declining resale value of the RL. Yet, when I questioned the Acura dealership from whom I had previously purchased new 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2005 RL's, I was given a price for a 2006 RL ($54k) that I believed simply too high.
As I related in another thread, this month I purchased a V8 powered 2006 Infiniti M45 (for $52k). The M45 is loaded with the Journey and Tech packages. It was delivered to me two days ago.
Today, I got an email from the Acura dealer telling me that they will take $5k off of all cars in their inventory as a show of former buyer loyaty. I find this statement as well as their timing to be a product of inept management.
The matter of whether the M45 is actually superior to the RL will be found as I gain experience driving it. However, at this moment I believe that I got more for my $52k then I would have gotten with $54k for the RL if I had purchased it earlier this month.

Because I have only had theM45 for a few days I am not prepared to offer a detailed opinion. However, even at this initial stage of ownership, I am impressed with the way the car, looks, handles and rides.
The interior appointment is excellent. My wife thinks the RL "feels" more luxurious. The function controls are different than the RL dash controls. Nevertheless, I felt comfortable with them from the outset.
The display screen is a bit larger than the RL. The navigation system is different but not difficult to master. I got the procedures correctly the first day. Now, have to think before I use RL voice commands instead of those peculiar to the M45 system.
From mile #1, I never had to baby the RL. I did take care alternating speeds and using the breaks for the intiial driving miles driving the RL. Same is true for the M45.
One major difference I found immediately reading the operator's manual and speaking to the Infiniti service dept is that the M45 requires a first oil-filter service at 3700mi. I drove the RL over 10,000mi before its first service.
I find the audio system superior in the M45. Although I am not a Bose fan, the Bose and its fourteen speakers present a wide rich range of sound.
Every mile I drove my 2005 RL was a pleasure. I hope the M45 proves to be the same.
I intend to post a detailed comparison of the two cars after I put some real miles on the M45.
Regards to all.
