Thinking about selling my RL, need some opinions.

Alright so been doing alot of thinking and frankly I'm growing bored of my car real fast. I love driving it because when I go to work dressed up in a suit and drive a nice big luxury car I feel like I'm somebody. I mean let's be honest how many 24 year old guys dress up in suits and drive a big luxury car? lol.

However as some of you guys might know already I'm a huge gearhead. I thrive off of big V8's, RWD, American made sports cars. I'm not talking about getting into another Mustang, but maybe a G8 GT, or an SRT8 if I can come across one that I can afford.

So my question is, do you guys think I could find a buyer if I tried to sell it for $9000?

Here's why I ask..

Just hit 160k miles. All the maintenance has been done to the car as required from Acura. Brand new, well damn near new Continental tires, new Xenarc xenon bulbs, new motor mounts, new alternator, new braking master cylinder replaced due to the recall.

The car mechanically is perfect you really can't get any better than this at 160k miles.

It does have some wear and tear like the center console armrest ripping. It's not horrible but looking at it has obvious signs of wear. The front left trim chrome is coming off which is no surprise but as we all know it's very common. Other than that, the car is perfect, oh and it even has the wood grain shift knob and steering wheel
Here's a few pics even though I know most of y'all have seen it already but those who haven't here they are for reference.

I really want to kind of step away from the luxury car scene, I mean don't get me wrong you can't go wrong with them. It's just not my speed, if I went with a Lexus GS 460, those cars are sexy. Then again not a huge Toyota/Lexus fan.

Thanks though man I wash this thing all the time to keep it clean. I'm pretty OCD about my cars.

I was the same way when I came from my old 3.5 CLS6. It's been just about a year now and I still have that performance itch that the RL just doesn't help with, it's more the 5spd auto than anything..

With that said, I can't put myself to ever part ways with the RL. My "itch" will be solved in the near future & if I really get fed up I have a 3.5 6spd swap & a 1st gen CL whispering sweet nothings in my ear every night..

As for getting 9k, don't see it happening with those miles

The thing is with the RL is it's so damn heavy and the performance market just isn't there and whatever you do find will cost you both your left and right nut, I love that there aren't many of these on the road but that comes at a cost, a very steep cost lol. It's like unless you plan on doing some heavy fab work to the car to increase the performance you might as well just bag it and toss some wheels on it. I'm not against the idea, but again I'm a huge gearhead, horse power, torque, and displacement gets my blood pumping

What you really need is a decent deal on a CT supercharger but thats obviously easier said than done.

Post her up and see if there are any bites

KBB has your car valued at $6,130 if it were in excellent condition which it is not. I wouldn't expect any more than $6k for it.

KBB is also a horrible source lol NADA says $8,250. Use to use KBB until I worked for dealerships several years ago, quickly learned that was a very unreliable source.
KBB use to be the go to place for values but NADA has just been far more accurate for me when it came to selling cars privately. Hell I sold an old 97 Accord EX V6 with a rebuilt title that also had existing frontal damage, flipped that car for $2500.
Also flipped a 1999 Grand Prix GTP coupe with existing frontal frame damage for $3500 which was of course disclosed to the buyer.

Point is those cars I've sold were based on using NADA, I've never screwed myself out on a deal when using NADA.
I just wanna know if anyone here were in the market for an RL and lets say came across mine for $9000 how likely they would be to pay that kind of money, if not what would they think would be reasonable.

IMO, $9k is a stretch for 11 years old car with 160k miles. Yes car may be in 'perfect' condition but that's your opinion as a current owner. For any that have done the research will know 2005 is not the ideal year for these 2nd gen RLs.

I have 06 w/ tech package. Just rolled over 142k miles. I doubt I'll get anything close to $7k-8k now so I plan to keep it until 200k but wouldn't expec to get much more than $4k-5k by then. IMO, when you get over 10 years + with 150k miles (assume 15k miles/yr), you can't expect much.

Best to take your loss and move forward w/ something you want. If you reverse that question, would you pay $9k for your car?

Best way to find a car's value is market price. I only use those 'books' when evaluating how much tax they'll make me pay.

It depends on your car's condition, but maybe around 8k. I checked austin TX since I don't know where in TX you are. Acura RL for Sale in Austin, TX 78703 - Autotrader

Especially when the RL is rare to find, when someone wants to buy one, they'll just see what they can find. And given what's out there, you can price your car. supply & demand basically.

or use these:

http://www.autotrader.com/car-values/

www.edmunds.com

On Edmunds, you may not find the RL only RLX, but put 2005 rl in their search, you'll get the 05 page to go ahead and put in ur details in the 'appraise' tab.

As for the deicsion making.. Well, it dpeends what do you do? what your lifestyle is like, do you ride with others often or not, etc. to decide what kind of car u'd like to have.

In defense of the car, and like i've noticed ur considering a turbo etc. well, if it is in a very good condition and you feel you could use this car years to come, then as tehCL's doing, work on it. Do little mods and make it look cooler etc. and you can do that knowing you got a hell of an engine in there.

I think you can have both worlds if you try. A big enough stability projecting car, and sporty with the mods you can do.

While you may think KBB is crap, you aren't buying the car. If all of your buyers trust KBB evaluation, it doesn't matter what you think. If NADA says your car is worth $8,250, then why do you think it's worth $9k? Your car doesn't have mufflers any more.

Of course, there may be someone who is willing to pay close to $9k. That is likely the exception. A fool and their money will part.

oo7 is being harsh, but at the same time, rather honest.

Why don't you post it and see if anyone bites, rather than ask us? You've got nothing to lose. Chances are you likely won't get that many inquiries at 9k though.

Also, if you ask 9k, people will offer 7.5k. So that means you need to list it for at least 10k, which I'm pretty sure no one will even bother calling. If I've noticed something with selling cars, if I price it a bit too high, people won't even call, even if the ad says OBO.

I personally don't think you should sell it, and I think replacing it with an LS430 will leave you satisfied for about a week... Every time I drive my dad's 430 it takes me less than a day to realize I want my car back. The one thing the LS has over our car is that it's AMAZING for road trips. And I was 22 when I bought my RL, just saying

Also, if you really want to try and get 9k, fix the broken stuff. You can get aftermarket covers for the armrest can't you? I dunno about the silver trim, but maybe contact an auto wrecker.

True I'll probably go this route honestly

Yeah no Lexus for me lol

And in all honesty guys I had a few people who wanted to buy my car, just at the time I couldn't pull the trigger because it would have left me empty handed so now I'm just trying to plan ahead.

As mentioned in another thread I'll most likely hold onto it for a little longer. Put some cash to the side, then sell it and go pick up either a Pontiac G8 GT or a Cadillac STS-V.
I want to have 4 doors still and have a very quick car. G8 GT is a sexy car, but that STS-V is supercharged and is a complete sleeper. Test drove the STS already and omg it's like racing on a cloud

Nope, I thought the 1st gen was more powerful and faster than that. Guess I was thinking about 2nd gen.

Yeah the 1st gen CTS V made 400hp and 395tq weighing 3850lbs
The STS V made 470hp and 439tq, HOWEVER does weigh a tad bit more weighing in at 4300lbs BUT their track times are pretty close. The STS V is actually a bit faster in the 1/4. With a good driver 12.8 is achievable completely stock while the CTS V is 13.3 I believe.

Your car is probably worth around $6,500..

Advice: sell me your shift knob and steering wheel because it won't increase the value of your car... I'll send you my stock knob and steering wheel.! PM me if youre interest.

Advice: the car has a recall, bring it to the dealer. Get a free rental for 3 months... At First I got a camry but i brought it back to enterprise and they gave me a 2016 Dodge Challenger... Soo fun but I miss the RL... maybe thats what you need.. 3 months in a sports car..

I would but all the rental locations are hurting for cars right now because we just got hit with hail recently. Wrestlemania was just here and NASCAR as well.
