Testing SH-AWD

I decided to test SH-AWD yesterday. There is a traffic circle on my way from home to work. Usually it is fairly busy so I wouldn't even consider this. However, this week is spring break for the nearby college so traffic was really light. Anyway, I entered the traffic circle, looked for any approaching cars, and proceeded to go around the circle several times at a higher than usual speed. Unfortunately, the position of the steering wheel required to stay in the road blocked my view of the display of the torque being applied to each wheel. I guess that I'll have to try it again sometime with a willing passenger to look at it and take a picture.

The system also kicks in when coasting...like going downhill on sharp curves. You don't have to accelerate to see it work.

Oh, believe me, I could feel it. I just couldn't see the little display due to the position of the steering wheel.

On my daily commute I have a really tight left-right-left sequence I execute under full power and this week I looked down at the SH display and saw that on the final left, under full throttle in second gear, the SH display was pegged on the right rear wheel

The car turned very crisply, not weird movements at all.

In my prior car, an AWD Subaru legacy GT, this curve could also be taken at full steam, but with a bit of oversteer, in full WRC style. But the RL does it much more gracefully. I really feel the rotation happen much quicker in the RL, it also seems less stressful on the tires.

Very impressive. Can’t wait for SH-AWD to show up on a 3,500 lbs car. That should be really fun to drive.
