strange

original owner of 2005 RL, so very experienced in all of the nuances, but ran across strange behavior yesterday.
I live in SF area, so rarely see hot weather, but we had heat wave over the weekend. I had to go to the Sacramento Delta area where temp was around 110 (car therm made it to 112).
I was returning home and noticed that passenger side mirror was pointed down as if it had not returned to standard position from the backup position.
I was able to mostly adjust with the mirror control, but then it completely stopped working. I tried switching back and forth from driver to passenger on the mirror switch and neither worked. Coincidentally, this happened when the temp maxed at 112.
Then after returning home and temp in the 80s, mirror controls resumed working. Anyone else experience temp related control problems?

a bit of an update - well I thought everything was working again, but not so.
Now, Passenger side mirror behaves correctly, i.e., automatically goes down adn up during backup and I can adjust with the switch.
However, cannot adjsut driver side with switch. Very strange

I think you just transfer your side mirror problem to me! I just got back from lunch and after reading your thread, I wanted to make sure my mirror slides down when reversed and back during drive. Then BAM, the passenger mirror stays angle downward (non function with dash control) and driver side works, but only slides down during reversed if the function is set to the driverside (won't do anything if it is clicked on the middle or passenger). Very weird (also very hot "95 degree today")! I hope you can find answer, I will contact my dealership tomorrow (I will wait one night to see if it is weather related.)

I also have notice my steering wheel has a grinding noise during only hot weather, and goes away after a little driving or cooler interior temperature?

Also an update: Just went in the garage and check the functions of the side mirrors, they are both working properly. I am guessing this issue is "heat" related and unless I can prove these issues to the Acura dealership it is moot to try to bring up this problem as I will get the normal “can not duplicate” response.

I concur that it is heat related. Left work yesterday with temp at 90+. Neither mirror functioning. Got on San Mateo bridge (Bay Area) where temp is 68 and both mirrors fully functional. I suspect this has always been the case, but have never really had a need to adjust the mirrors. Only happened to notice because the passenger side did not return to normal after backing up.
With window down I can hear the mirror mechanism working. So my next test when it it hot is to listen tro see if it is the switch not functioning when hot or the mechanism in the mirror.

Not sure if anyone cares, but here's an update.
Temp 93 at lunch. Passenger side can be adjusted up/down but not left/right using button. Driver's side non-operable. I had window rolled down any could not hear any gears moving in mirror which I can when it works. From this, I am assuming it is switch/button related. Odd though that button will adjust passenger side, but not driver.
(And, yes I moved switch from passenger to drivers side.)

Are you still under warranty? I would make a quick stop to the dealership so they can do a diagnostic of the problem. Tomorrow is my day off, so hopefully the problem acts up, so I can get to the bottom of this issues. Keep us updated, and i shall do the same!

I already know what the dealer will tell you....

This is not a defect. This is a feature.

Acuralink, with it's solar sensing climate control knows that the only place that burns hotter than the surface of the sun is in your car when the sun reflects off your side view mirrors and into your eyes. Acuralink responds by tilting down the side mirror. If it knows where the sun is and when it is blinding you, imagine what else it knows.

I am having a sorta similar problem but it sure isn't hot right now in MA.
At random my passenger mirror goes into teh down (backup) position. I have no problem puttin it back to teh right spot but then I will randomly look at it later and it will eb down again. it doesn't matter what position I leave the switch in or if I stop, Park, hit Drive, Reverse, etc. All of that works correctly when used, i.e. reverse it goes down and drive it goes back up. But then 10 minute slater I'll look at it and it will be down again.
Any idea??? This is so weird.

It wasn't until I reset the Mem2 that it seemed to help. Makes little sense why mem2 (never used) would effect it. But hey it is ok for now. I will check with dealer on recall.
Thanks,
Adam

Not a recall, a TSB, it is actually in the 2G RL Garage section.
