Steering wheel clicking
Steering wheel clicking
Anyone have experience with their steering wheel clicking when turning? I've been hearing a little click noise here and there when turning, but can't seem to figure out what the cause it.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Hello, I am having the same problem with mine. Its always noticeable on dry steering, sometimes when driving, and especially when going down an incline and turning - almost a popping sound can be heard with some driver feedback. Just took it into my mechanic (not Acura), and he se but cannot pinpoint the component after taking the wheel off. He said all suspension is solid and no worm parts found. My TL is an 05 with 56K
I'm having the exact same clicking problem. I noticed that it only clicks when I turn with my turn signals on. I'm going to the dealership for an oil change in about a week, I'll ask them about it.
Determine if the clicking is related to the signal lever. Clicks when turned to right/left with and without signaling.
If it occurs only when signaling it is probably related to the mechanism that turns off the signal lights once the sensor detects a reversal in in steering wheel movement (transition from CW to CCW or CCW to CW). The mechanism is probably mechanical.

In my car it clicks when turning left and right without using the signal. I also notice clicking when I turn the steering wheel without the car moving (dry steer).
I've read that it could be the steering bushings that's bad. But I'm not 100% sure.

I can think of a few possibilities...
The airbag clock spring. If it is wearing, it may also cause an airbag warning light.
The turn signal reset may be worn, or dirty. (perhaps filled with taco crumbs?)
Something in the suspension, transmitting the symptom through the steering column. But this I suspect least.
Likely all of them require dealer intervention.
And the defect is defective.
(sorry steve, even jet lagged this one made me laugh!

Funny I have the exact problem took it in to the deal even drove with the master tech and he could not figure out what the problem was. They checked under the car and all the suspension and all the components under the car. No problems found, maybe it's they way the care is made and it's and Acura thing, or your whole fron't axel will fall off when your turning on the road one day, lol. I hope not.
Some 09 TL owners are experiencing a clicking sound also.. check out this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-problems-fixes-297/steering-wheel-click-sound-722954/
If it's audible in the cabin check the plastic knuckle cover. I had a similar problem and what had happened was the plastic cover (in the cabin, behind the brake pedal) had come loose. The "clicking" was the knuckle hitting the cap. I just snapped it back in place and the noise was gone.
I too have the same issue. I have brought this up to my dealer and the tech said it was perfectly normal. He tested on another RL on the lot and it was clicking too. He said it was part of the steering wheel mechanism...
