Let me first start off by saying that I am so happy I clicked on this thread! My brakes have been squeaky for about 2 months now. I have a 2006 RL that is in VIN range for the TSB and it makes me so happy that I learned this now so I get it all changed for free (right) . My car says it needs A1 service NOW so I guess I'm going to have to give up my RL to service for a day. AND, my brakes squeak at mid-range speeds (50-65) just for a second when I start to slow down. I'm guessing that problem will get taken care of too as a result of the new parts.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!

I had the TSB done yesterday .. they replaced the front rotors, pads, and a spring . . .my service advisor said that the calipers and pads are made by Brembo . . . .is there any truth to that statement?

Thanks for talking about brake squeaking.
Mine have been squeaking terribly at slow speeds until I've traveled a couple of miles. You guys jinxed me!
I'll bring it up at the next oil change. I'm outside of the range for the TSB, too.

My fronts squealed pretty much all the time prior to having the TSB done.

When I got to the dealer last Friday and mentioned the "squeaky brakes" and showed him the TSB print out, he suggested going for a ride to hear it. 'Lo on behold, I could NOT replicate the sound/issue. It was raining on that day (not sure if that dampened it). So he said, they really could not do anything about it. I insisted they check it out. I got a call in the afternoon and he said everything looked good and no replacement is needed. He also said that my car is out of the VIN coverage.
When I got my car back, as I was driving away, guess what I heard? The squeaky brakes! The dealer was closed at this time. I guess I need to somehow replicate this problem with his as a witness I know it is going to happen, it is jus a matter of time...

One thing my dealer has be very good about is fixing things based on my word. I've never gotten the "could not duplicate" response (with my old Volvo, that "could not duplicate" was just about all I got).

If you're not within the VIN range, try replacing the pads with those made by Akebono Pro Act Ceramic, follow the installation instruction and the squeal will go. I just did a front brake pad replacement last night, it took me about an hour and a half (first time I did it) and did the bedding suggestions in some sites and all is well. No squeal so far and performance is very good.

What's the Acura corp number for that?

Update: got a response that they (dealership) would have to diagnose the problem (which I am ok with, dah) and decide if the parts are at faults or whatever. But, there it comes, if they find nothing wrong I would have to pay from my pocket for diagnostic.
I think I would be better off by changing discs or resurfacing them and changing pads myself.

I can't see page two of the TSB, does anyone know if they dimple the VIN when the TSB is applied?
I purchased my RL used and I don't know if it was applied or not. Like a lot of other people, I have squeaky brakes until they warm up.

Brake squeal
My 06 RL w/ 36000 mi had the squeal each time I pulled into my garage. Took the TSB to my dealer and they did a front brake job w/ pads and rotors and new rear pads and machined the rear rotors. No more squeal.

I told my dealer (acura of pleasanton) about the tsb for squeaking front brakes when I brought my 2006 RL with 22,000 miles in for routine service today . My car was in the VIN number range. They replaced the front discs, brake pads and pad springs under warranty no questions asked. I wish to thank acurazine members, especially lland, for their help.

Burning Brakes
Not sure this is the correct thread for this, but my brakes are starting to grind -- and I have only 15000 miles on my 2006 RL. The grinding usually occurs with moderate to strong braking. Are my pads simply worn out?

Burning Brakes
I took my car in this morning for the A16 service and asked the service manager to check the brakes and brought a copy of the TSB with me (second time I've done this - did it at my last appointment 6 months ago). The brake squeal has gotten much worse on my car to the point where it happens 75% of the time when I step on the brake (I have about 15,000 miles on my 06 RL). It's especially annoying on the highway - when slowing down I get a lengthy high-pitched squeal that's really loud. After the service and test drive they said they couldn't replicate the brake squeal but said they would do the TSB because it was the second time I mentioned it as a problem. Of course, when I got in the car to drive away the brakes squealed.

dwboston,
I too have a 2006 RL and have about 17,000 miles on mine.....and have been experiencing the squeaky brakes since 10,000. I bought in the TSB brake issue at 10K when doing a A16 service and they said it wasn't within my VIN range, then at 17K (A1 service)...mentioned that the squeaking was still occuring but was getting worse. Well, I think they finally solved the issue. This is after they drove the car and said they could not replicate at first, then I complained and said this was not satisfactory. I told them I have had passengers in the car and they have heard my brakes squeal, and said it's quite embrassing. Afterall, I'm driving the "flagship" car and it sounds like I own an entry level car with bugs. So, they said they would keep the car for the weekend and investigate further. Well, they called me on Monday and they said the noise was from the rear brakes and not the front brakes. Personally, I could never tell if it was coming from the front or rear. To make a long story short, they ended up replacing the following under warranty;
- brand new rear brake pads for both sides
- new rear rotors for both sides
It's been about a week and I don't hear anymore squeaking. Hopefully this solves the issue or I'll be back!

Yeah, they originally resurfaced my rear rotors...but the issue persist, so they replaced the rotor entirely. Like yours.....let's hope this doesn't return. I'm now worried that my front brakes could potentially have this problem...let's hope not? Acura needs to get this resolved quickly....not sure what is going on with all this brake noise??
