spoiler question

I just purchased a spoiler for my 05 RL. Here's my question. I bought this thing from across the country at a junkyard for $80. I'm just trying to see if it's real or what. I looked up the following alpha numeric sequence on the internet and searched these forums endlessly. So can anyone tell me the deal with this thing. Thank You.

a picture would have helped, what happens if it isnt real? chew toy for the dog haha

The number looks right up to the last four digits which tell what color it is.

They are usually "08F10-SJA-XXX2" and the "X's" are color code.

Thank you Heavy. It looks real to me. It has the same screw placement as the install link you gave me. I did a test fit and it fits perfectly. It is those last four numbers that throw off my search. On the back of the spoiler it says Honda and made in Japan. It looks identical to the one on the install thread.

My guess would be the "honda legend" may use a different paint code.

Either way she is a keeper.

Would it matter if it wasn't "real"? It fits; right? Or is it imaginary?

I'm not so sure. This was his last comment.

the part number matches down to the color code, I think the odds are looking good.

That wasn't my point. I think it is "real", but what would he do if it wasn't.

Well "he" being me would probably chock it up as a loss and get rid of it. But I believe it is authentic so I'm good. Different note though. I'm not too sure that I like how it looks.

Not sure. I'm wet sanding it and cleaning it now. If it looks better I may use it. Right now though...I don't like the way it looks.

Well I took it to a guy that know that powder coats for a living. He said he could re-paint it for me for $30. All I need is the paint. I guess I'll do that.

I first read "powder coater" I was like NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yeah 30 bucks to paint it isnt bad, I would be careful getting the paint from the paint code cause it may not match with seven years of sun fade.

Yea I thought about the paint being faded as well. After I talked to him I felt better. He can match the paint perfectly with some kind of paint color match system. So I don't even have to get the paint now. I have no idea how it works. But he said I'll have nothing to worry about.

I'll be honest man. I've read a few of the other threads that you've been in and it seems you need to have the last word. I never put a lot of stock into what other people have said but it seems to be very true. Every single one of your posts in my thread have being negative or condescending. From this post to pictures (admittedly very funny). You've brought nothing to this thread...at all. You have done one important thing for me though. You've kept my thread alive so that helpful people, such as Heavy, can help me. Thanks Heavy and thank you oo7 for keeping Heavy interested.

Well, I sincerely apologize for coming across negatively as that was not my intention. I am not sure what there was to be said after the first few posts, and I really wanted to know if you wouldn't use it if it wasn't OEM.

I think some people (not necessarily anyone here) take this forum a little too seriously at times. I post what I think, and a lot of times that is a sarcastic or smart ass comment. When there is something I can help with, I do my best to help.

In the mean time, I am interested to know if you are going to use the spoiler and what the final product looks like, so .

Cool deal, they did the same thing when I had my bumpers repainted. It was pretty damn close.

Keep us posted

I'm getting the spoiler repainted sometime within the next two weeks. I don't want to do any drilling either. I've followed your recent thread and I like what you've done with your car. It's nice to see a follow Ohioan on this site.

What part of Ohio are you from? I'm up in NE Ohio, Westlake area.

I was able to install the spoiler (both on my TL & RL) without drilling.

With the RL, I removed ALL of the double sided tape that it came with. I picked up a 6 foot roll of 3M super heavy duty tape (picked up at Wal-Mart)
and generously used it to cover the entire back side of the lip. Make sure you get good coverage on the corners as this is where you will have issues. The corner has a tendency to rise without good coverage. Don't get the tape too close to the corner edges as it will show a gap.

Good luck with the install

Im in the eastern part of Ohio. Not too far from Youngstown. Thanks for the tips on the spoiler and for making it clear about the corners.
