Side Mirror Problem

I don't know if anybody else has had this problem but I've had a Lakeshore Metallic RL since late May. It's worked fine in all aspects until this morning. When I backed out of my garage, I noticed that my side mirrors had not adjusted to the lower position for reverse. I tried switching numerous times and then tried turning off the car and trying again. Unfortunately, the side mirrors stay stuck. However, I can still adjust them fine manually. Anbody know what is happening?

Check if your backup lights are working. It might be that the switch that tells the car you're in reverse is busted. Happened on my S4. I do not have mirrors that point down but the backup lights ceased worked. Switch in the tranny was busted.

Some other things you could check:

1. Check that the mirror setting is still set by pressing the up and down buttons on the steering wheel until you get in setup mode. Scroll through the options and you will eventually find one to set whether the left or right mirror is activated in reverse.

2. Change it from the right to the left mirror (or reverse) to see if it makes any difference

3. Put up the rear sunshade, which should retract if the car "thinks" you are reverse (this should help with Nocturnal's suggestion)

hmm, you could also pull out the main fuse and backup fuses to see if it resets this. I had an issue where half the electroncis didnt work and pulling the fuse fixed this. One of the things that didnt work was the mirror not tilting but I was still able to move the mirror.

I agree with Rob's suggestion if all else fails (aren't we all being civil today), the hard reboot has proven itself to fix many weird and wonderful things.

Pete,

I don't think the 05 RL has a setting for this? I just went out and went through every setting and didn't find one to control the mirror(s) dropping down in reverse?

Yes there is. The buttons youy use to adjust your mirrors for viewing - if you leave the button in the far left it will drop down the left mirror in reverse - if you leave the button in the right it will drop down the right mirror in reverse. If you leave it in the middle - neither mirror drops.

Yeah, my bad. The setting is not in the info display, you simply set the mirror control to left or right and the mirror that it is set to will drop in reverse, as vp911 stated.

As for the rear sunshade, if you put the sunshade up while in a forward gear, then shift into reverse, the sunshade will automatically drop...cool eh?
