shudder it idle

my 2005 with 166K miles started to shudder at idle - its almost like a fast loping. I only feel it through the steering wheel. Also noticed that the noise suppression does not work as well, i.e., I can hear the engine at idle more than before.
It does not stumble under acceleration.

Thoughts?

What are the RPMs? There was an idle speed sensor on 2G Legends that could be adjusted. The service manual had a section on tuning it. Legend #1 developed a very rough idle before I sold her (to the point she would almost stall at stop lights). From everything I read, I was lead to believe it was the vacuum system or EGR system.

Its 900 rpm. If I open the hood, you can barely see the engine shake, but you can feel it by touching it.

My car gets very rough start but 30 sec after is gone.Don't know if it is related to your issue though.I am guessing it either time for an oil change, bad engine mount(s) or maybe it is normal

Engine mount is most likely the culprit

I was thinking engine mount as well - but does that explain the increase in the engine noise?

900 is just about perfect. I would inspect those mounts.

What are the visual signs of a failing engine mount?Cracked, faded rubber? Is it only seen from above or the car needs to be lifted and inspected from underneath?

We just replaced an idle air control valve on a 91 for this issue.

got an MDX
looked at the RLX, but did not drive it. I'd say it looks better in person and I like it.
I just cannot believe how stupid the salespeople are. I was the only one in the showroom, so I know this guy had been sitting around with nothing to do. Perhaps read up a bit on the cars you are trying to sell. Nooooo.
He knew virtually nothing about the car. First thing he pointed out to me: the button for the parking brake. Woo Hoo. Had no clue about most of the feautures.
Then I ask him when they will be getting the AWD. He turns to the Floor Manager and asks the guy if the one they have in the back is AWD. WTF??

very true
I did not want to talk to him. If I was really looking to buy, I would have asked for someone else.
I've had a couple sales people that knew their stuff. One young guy was a mechanic and car enthusiest. Pleasure to talk to

Wait for the AWD version, the paws system in the front wheel drive RLX seems to work well but the TL SH-AWD is much more fun to drive. Honda should have brought out the fully loaded AWD RLX first to show off what its all about then let people who can do without pay much less for a front wheel drive.

I have a 2G RL with SH-AWD. I know exactly what it is like. I'm not in the market for the FWD RLX, just thought I might do a test drive. I'll be waiting on the AWD Hybrid.

I've stated multiple times on this forum that it was a mistake to bring out the FWD first. All those threads are moved under RLX

ended up being later than expected to pick up my RL, so did not test drive RLX.
The bad news is the vibration/shudder is still there. All service was gone when I picked up car, so now I have to go back

Have you had your valve clearance checked/adjusted? Tight valves would cause this especially during a cold start-up. It might never even set the CEL, but would cause a rich condition especially at idle with the throttle barely open. I would let the dealer dig a little deeper with the HDS.

I've done all the recommended maintenance including 105K timing belt. Would that be the last time valve cearance cked? I'm at 166K now

Will take it back to Dealer next week. Hard to explain the shudder exactly, but there is a vibration as well as feeling like rpm waivers back and forth quickly. However, not noticeable on the gauge

It just depends on what all your 105k service included. Unless they removed the intake and both valve covers and physically checked each valve during the 105k service, it was probably never checked. How is your gas mileage? So, the only time you experience the vibration is at idle?

I have reset the mileage so I can compare to normal. Can only feel it at idle - worse in gear than neutral.

Well if you take it back to the dealer for the same concern they shouldn't charge you diagnosis since the repair they made did not fix the problem. They should be able to monitor fuel trim and map sensor readings that will reveal instantly how your engine is running and if indeed this is the cause of your vibration.

took in today to show tech exactly what I feel at idle
had 2 techs look at it while I was there. Turns out it ilooks like it s the passenger side raidator fan. It has some issue with bearings or motor as it was vibrating and going off/on.
When the Tech physically stopped the fan, the vibration felt in steering wheel went away. Have to order, so won't know for sure until they replace it, but this was an odd one

So the parts are in and I have appointment tomorrow. Guess what stopped? The shudder went away yesterday and I assumed the fan just quit altogether and therefore no more vibration. However, looked tonight and fan is working.
I wonder if something got on the shaft. There was nothing hitting the blades when it was shownig the problem
