Same here, I just bought two to replace the old ones. Not cheap by any means. Curry has a good price on them.

They are plastic, so not much you can do about polishing them out.

I replaced one of mine when I was attacked by a rogue shopping cart. The part was about $75. But I had my tech do the replacement as the rear bumper cover had to be loosened to remove the old trim piece. It does not simply pop out, there are fasteners behind the bumper facia that need to be removed.

other then replacing the whole thing, can I repaint it or buy some "chrome tape" to tape it?

How bad is it? I would just fix it the right way instead of monkeying around with other options that in the end will just lead to more frustration. If it is very minor then perhaps some chrome tough up will mask it.

i think it is just a minor scratch located at the rear bumper, about the length of my finger tip, which is noticible if you look close up. There is also a scatch in the front fender ( which is metal), not sure how to deal with them. Maybe you are right, some chrome touch up paint might help
