Unhappy Saying Goodby to 06 RL

Unfortunately I have sell my wife's 2006 RL with tech Pkg. Since moving to northern Michigan we have found that our 300 ft 15% grade driveway is too steep for the RL's AWD system in winter. My 01 Chevy Tahoe can do it without a problem in Low 4WD so we'll be going to a new SUV with true 4WD for this winter. And yes, we do have dedicated winter tires. It has been the most trouble-free car we have ever had with literally almost nothing going wrong with it in 7 years - replacement of a drivers side touch door lock and replacement of the trunk release - both under factory warranty. This is the first time I have ever sold a vehicle with less than 12 years personal use on it. If any ACURAZINE members are interested, I can send pictures and a description to them. I'll miss the RL, I consider it a very under appreciated car which is really an outstanding choice.

I must admit I am a bit surprised the car can't handle it. I assume you found this out this past spring?

Yes, actually winter - January through March it didn't get much driving.

Okay, this was on a late December 2012 afternoon (before we had a lot of snow) where the sun had melted a lot of the ice (south facing driveway) and I'm already about 5 feet up the 60 ft rise. You're looking up about 280 ft there. Even though it is paved, when ice forms (usually at the very top and near the bottom) even with salting and plowing it can be difficult. On this day, no problems getting up and down with the RL but this is a very good day. We're on a major bay of Lake Michigan so we get a lot of lake effect snow and drifting as well. Hopefully the photo will upload.

I have tried it with and without traction control - it makes some difference but not a lot.

Bye guys,
Sold the RL today for $14k. The most trouble free car I have ever owned and preformed as new right up to the end. Boy, the prices people think they can buy these 06 RLs for; most wanted to offer $8-12k and the dealer network didn't help as they talked the vehicle down to people who called them trying to get a realistic price (rather than KBB which gave them). Anyway, since I first listed at the end of July, prices went from about $16k around here to about $12k if you believe what the dealers are saying. It's a great car and if it weren't for the need for a 7 passenger vehicle, I'd have kept it for another 7-8 years. Enjoy your RLs, they're great!
