Angry Rotten luck

I upgraded to a 2006 RL (with A-Spec wheels and rear deck spoiler) from a 2002 TL Type S on Thursday April 13. On Friday April 14, the car was damaged by severe thunderstorms and golf-ball sized hail. I had about 40 dents (many of which held water) over the hood, trunk, roof, and fenders. The insurance will cover it and estrimate the reparis to be around $3000.

since misery loves company...so I felt compelled to share my story

I feel you on this one. I went my whole life without a single fender bender. I got my RL, and wham-o, hit and run driver nails my car for about $1300 worth of repairs within a few months. I get the car repaired, have it back for *5 hours* and wham, get nailed again for about $1300 (yet again!). At least I'm consistent.

Ouch, sorry to hear. Our RL seemed to have some bad luck as well. A portion of a tree branch fell on the hood and dented it right in the center crease. On xmas, a lady in a voyager rear ended us on the way back from xmas service which caused about $2500 in damages.

Hopefully all the bad kharma is behind us now.

Wow, this really sucks but I feel your pain. I drove my car home from the dealership at about 9pm or so the night I bought it and the next day (first day of ownership really) I got hit-and-run rear ended by some idiot in a corvette. Within the first 2 weeks of having the car I got a nice sized door ding that went down to the metal (first in my life), someone hit the front right corner of the bumper while the car was parked (no note, no nothing), someone hit the left rear bumper while parked (again, no note), and then my idiotic self forgot that I only had the garage door up about half way and I backed the car out and rammed the gps/xm antenna into the garage door which slightly dented the roof and scratched the antenna. This car has seriously been a magnet for damage which is weird because I've owned probably 20 cars and nothing like this has ever happened. I'd like to say that I'm glad it's not just me but I'm not. I'll just say that I can feel your pain.

You can see pics of the damage here:

My baby is in the shop now (I think I will name here 'Hail-ee'). The repairs cost over $3500 (new trunk and new hood). Wish me luck that the fit and finish is as good as new.

It is probably too late, but you could have tried the dent wizard since the there was not damage to the paint. Trunk & hood are fairly easy for them to work on.

I think those dents are beyond the capibility of the dent wizard. Looks to me that the hail was larger than a golf ball.

BTW, just curious why you have a garage, but the car was not parked in it?

I feel very sorry for your misfortune. The paint finish is so good on the RL, I hope your body shop and Insurance Company know the quality of the finish and is able to restore it. Good luck hopefully you and your cars future will be without further incident........Steve

My TL suffered the same fate last week. Many dents, but dentwizard can repair them since they aren't as deep and the paint doesn't have damage. But my car is not new, and is not an RL. I'd be upset, too! Sorry about your luck.. I'm sure your RL will be perfect when repaired.

How will they repair?

How will they repair the dents? Bondo? Would you mind sharing what kind of repair the insurance company said they would do for the $3k? Thanks.

Thanks for the words of sympathy. For the record, the car was not parked in the garage because I wasn't home when the hail storm hit. I went to a basketball game (The Pacers won...the only good news of the night), and saw the hail from the arena. The dents were too deep to do PDR (paintless, Dent Repair) on the trunk and hood, so the insurance company is replacing those (which amounts for most of the 3K repair bill). PDR can be used for the fenders and roof. The Hail was about the size of tennis balls and luckily none of the windows broke. At least 7 people in the lot I parked in weren't so lucky.
