Lightbulb RL wood grain steering wheel and shift knob

Hi all,

Can anyone point me to a place that sales the OEM wood knob, I've been looking everywhere and it seems like the item has been discontinued.

Also, the lowest price I saw for the wood grain sport steering wheel had it for $410, anyone know of a place that is cheaper. I know I saw a thread that mentioned people purchasing it for $390.

If anyone is willing to sell me there's if they have one, that'll work too.

TIA,

Bruce

The knob is occasionally on eBay for ~$60. Oemacuraparts should have the cheapest brand new price for the wheel. The knob is discontinued.

I just bought a TL knob for $53 shipped on eBay. I will update when I get it on color match.

Acura Dealers -- just call a few parts dept. and see who has them and compare price.

So I got the TL knob in yesterday and snapped a few pics. The color is spot on with the rest of the wood. I'm only 3 parts away from the full wood interior. Unfortunately, I am still 90% away from the total cost.

With flash:

Without flash:

The only issue I have with this knob is that it sits about 1" higher than the stock one. I can't tell it if looks bad or not because I am so used to the shorter one. I wish it were shorter, but I may get used to it. I will give it some time to become normal before I attempt to shorten it if I can't stand it.

Does the RL wood knob sit higher too?

If the stock knob were in the same picture, the top would come up to about the bottom of the head unit.

Can you confirm that the TL wood knob fit the threads on the RL. You can still get the TL knob but no one has the RL knob.

Also, I had a TL and the wood knob did sit higher up and I never was a fan of the feel. A mod to the metal rod with rethreading would be the only solution. Keep us posted.

The TL knob has no issues with threading. The third picture is proof.

What about aftermarket knobs like momo, etc? Those knobs have universal system where it just grabs the shaft of the shifter...so you can cut the metal shaft as low as you want and they fit. Only issue would be finding one that looks right...most of them are more ricey than classy.

Does the knob actually screw on vs use teeth to grab the shaft? If it threads on you are stuck with that height unless you mod the shaft and somehow rethread it.

I agree..it looks too high. I'd try to find a way to make it sit lower...

I looked online and while it hard to know how well this would match, here is a wood knob from momo that could work. This could be installed as low as you want.

The only thing I will mod is the knob itself. The threading on the stock knob is a plastic insert. I can drill the hole of the wood knob deeper and place a similar insert into the deeper hole. The wood knob and stock knob are the exact same physical height. The only difference where the threading begins.

I still would like to know if the RL wood knob has any difference from stock.

I also don't believe the threads are Acura specific. I think any screw on knob would fit.

Wood Shift Knob

RL wood grain steering wheel and shift knob-wood-shift-knob2.jpg

This knob looks like it rides much lower on the shaft? Is this a knob specific to the RL vs. the TL knob which might fit higher on the shaft?

This picture was taken of an 05 RL selling on eBay.

This knob is RL specific. It sits lower than the TL knob.

L, I think that is what I am going to do. Did you place something threaded in there, or did you just drill a tight hole and force it on?

Doesn't the TL knob make the RL front wheel drive?

... The only way to make the RL front wheel drive is to screw up the rear diff refill.

I had someone do it for me but he had a bit that was the exact same thread size and pitch as the shifter. So it just screwed on as an oem knob would have. He drilled into the knob as far as he could go without going through the knob.

AH SHIT!!!! Taupe, Parchment, or Ebony?

Also, interested in how a wheel swap might work? Either one or both will have to be without a wheel for a while.

I bought and installed a brand new wood steering wheel from a member on here just over the weekend. I found and bought the oem wood grain knob on ebay, it should be here today. I will post pictures of my car along w/ the steering wheel and knob soon.

I beleive ichi D & L's TL were looking for the steering wheel.

FYI, the knob has been discontinued and no acura dealer or vendor has them. Just ask me how I know.

Ebay, craigslist, dismantlers, and of course AZ is probably going to be your best bet.

Partchment is an obvious tan. It looks like a sand color. Taupe is grey. It looks like a mix between khaki and light grey. Almost like a snow camo. I am definitely interested in a taupe wheel, but am also interested in how we would swap.

So, thanks to titomang for posting a pic of the RL knob in his other thread, I can now compare the two. Here is the RL knob:

And here is the TL knob. I tried my best to match the angle of the pictures.

Diablo, this is Taupe. Sorry about the poor lighting.

Looks like your steering wheel is tan/parchment but the rest of your interior is taupe/medium gray.

I would like to thank the OP (titomang) for hooking me up with a used wood wheel for a very reasonable price. (Think 40% off.) I promised him a picture, so here it is. 2/3 of the way to my full wood interior upgrade.

tito said his buddy bought the wheel thinking it was Parchment and wanted to sell it when he found out it was Taupe, so I don't think it's worth asking him for any more used wheels.
