RL vs. TLX interior

Last night I was at the Acura dealer picking up some brake fluid. I saw a 9AT TLX SHAWD V6 adv in the showroom. In Canada the fully loaded TLX costs 49k, and needless to say I was not impressed with the interior. To be perfectly honest, my favorite things about the interior were the Auto-Fold mirrors(2011 RL adv. is manual power folding), also, the ELS Stereo was nice, as are the heated rear seats. I also appreciate the far updated tech, and driver assistance features which are too many to name; the modern dash and door design is nice. I believe from the interior aspect the TLX can't compete with the 2G RL. However, I love the very softly padded center armrest, and the sport seats are pleasing to the eye.

Here is a list(long) of all my gripes with TLX interior over RL:
-Cheap plastic everywhere, rear speaker grille, bottom of doors, underneath steering column
-Fake headliner(RL is a seude-like material)
-No sunshades in rear
-Feels cramped compared to RL(specs say otherwise)
-Even less room in backseat of RL
-No power fold headrest in rear
-No adjustable lumbar in TLX(passanger seat)
-Seats are just a little bit to hard for my tastes
-No power tilt telescopic steering wheel
-Fake wood(RL is real in 2011 Adv.)
-No wood on wheel(but TLX has really innovative gear selector)
-Complex, and hard to use controls
-Doors feel flimsy and cheap when they close
-Materials on door aren't on par with 2G RL

I have to say the interior of the TLX is almost a deal-breaker for me.

wow nice list, I also agree that 50k is too much for the TLX shawd. I think 40k would be about right.

With all due respect, the RL is an unfair yardstick for measuring the TLX in materials quality and overall solidity. The TLX is the successor to the TL and TSX, two vehicles that sold for $10-15,000 (US) less than the RL.

Today's cars generally have more and better electronics, greater acceleration, better fuel economy, and greater safety than their predecessors. All these advances come because of added content and technology. To sell at the same inflation-adjusted prices, something has to give. In the case of most modern cars, a big part of that something is the quality of the interior materials.

Personally, in many ways I prefer the way it was. I'd rather sit in my former, impeccably finished '92 Maxima than in many current "luxury" interiors. But time marches on.

Well, they are two different categories.... I almost feel that's like getting in a Corolla and then gripping about how the Camry is so much better for so much less money... And plus it's 49K CDN, which translates to USD price tag + overly obscene premium for crossing a border.

It's funny that you mention the 2 points:

-Materials on door aren't on par with 2G RL
-Even less room in backseat of RL

The more time I'm spending with my 2G, the more I find myself saying that when comparing it to my old 1G RL.
