RL low temp & slow oil life monitor
Hi all, was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.
2005 RL
I increased engine oil weight to 5w-30 to see if it would help with notorious Acura oil/stem seal leaks (it hasn't).
Now 300 miles away from its 7,000 mile full synthetic oil change and the oil life monitor is still at 60% - not stuck, just SLOW.
I noticed the temperature was a bit low so I monitored it through the ODB-II and it runs between 171° and 185° normally, quite below normal engine operating temps. It went over 200 once at idle while testing.
Thermostat? Not sure - It never drops below 171 on the freeway and I had a camry years ago that, when the thermostat failed, the engine temp literally bottomed out. This stays within that range (normally).
Computer may be running the car at a lower temp to compensate for the 30 weight oil, keeping it at a lower viscosity?
