RL from ILX
Hello everyone. I was once very active in the ILX community, but it's time to move over. I'll be passing my 2013 ILX to one of my daughters for me to make my newly purchased, but have not received (being shipped), 2006 RL within the next week, or so, I've wanted one of these second-gen models for a long time, but never followed through until now. I've never ridden in or driven one, but I've had two other Acuras, so we'll see. I've been reading through the posts to see what the future may hold in terms of modding, maintenance, and repair as I make her my daily driver. Fortunately, it came along when I was in buying mode, hence the passing down of the ILX to my daughter.
Here's a link, while it still works, to the pics of it.

I'm looking forward to the journey here and in it! Thanks for all you have posted and I hope to add to the experience in this forum.

That would be great of you to do that with the pics! No need to do all of them. Yes, it has 21957 miles. When it gets here from Florida, it will be an experience, hopefully, a great one!

Thanks! No need to PM them, I'll pick them up later. I had a notification set up on eBay, of all places. It's still hard to believe, for me, until it gets here. The dealer was great to work with and was very helpful. I'd never made this kind of purchase on eBay, before.

I think so, IIRC, I thought I saw it on the CARFAX, but may be mistaken since I looked at so many in the last few months. It'll be going to my local Acura dealer, with whom I've dealt for 15 years, to check it out for me. Thanks for the heads up on it.

I have both a '16 ILX and a '06 RL. The RL is by far the better built vehicle with more premium materials inside. Even compared to the '16 ILX (which is already a step up from the pre-16 ILXs) it's always jarring when I go between these cars. The ILX is fun in a go-kart kind of way, but the RL is like driving a tank. Here's a top tip: the door detents on the RL are not strong enough. So if you quickly open the door and then get out, you might find the door coming right back at you and slamming into your body. The RL door is very heavy compared to the ILX.

beside lacking the modern techs (apple car play, BTA music streaming), MPG is the only things you will miss from the ILX. Other than that I have to say the RL easily beat any new Acura line up in term of built quality and design of interior/ exterior.

That's the plan about the detail and ceramic. I want to ceramic coat it, but I don't see any threads about what y'all have used, yet. Any suggestions?

The RL's door is certainly much heavier. The pull back is mainly coz im sure as most notice, you can just give the door a little nudge and it will close on it's own.
I tried that in an 2018 ILX, 2018 RDX.. not even close.
Of course, when friends ride with me, they're always slamming my doors; not used to how this door works

Amazing find and great snatch of the RL ... I like to call them Unicorn lol because to find low miles with such great preserved interior is amazing!!!
One suggestion I have is steering wheel - you gotta go for the wooden one... it will so complete the interior of the car you won't believe how much... and +1 on detail and some protection like ceramic, etc. considering it is a black car, it will really pop after you do the detailing on it

Congrats and WOW what a find with such low miles. I have 145k miles on my RL and love every mile of it. Recently purchased and installed the USA Spec BT45-ACU to stream music wirelessly and it is worth the upgrade if you want to modernize the RL.

OP - Have the TB and WP been completed?
On ceramic coat there are a number of products out there choose the one that best fits your budget and plans for the vehicle. I have it on a number of vehicles from Modesta to Opti Coat to Cquartz. I'd start with baselining the car first before going to detail and coating you dont want folks working on a car that has had fresh detail and coating applied.
Congrats on purchase, youll be pleased. Mine has 87k miles and I added the touches mentioned in this thread plus aspec kit and love this car, always wanted one.

OP - on the bits suggested; wheel and shifter I know for sure shift knob is no longer available new and I am unsure about steering wheel esp in your color. I know when I was looking for my steering wheel in graphite I was able to get a new one but they were being discontinued. I really didnt think would make much of a difference but I love the feel. Also since yours will be a daily you should think of protecting the leather since it is a lighter color too.

No offense but any Opticoat Pro involve in paint correction won't goes less than $1000. I had get quote from many authorize detailer and the cheapest was $1500, only authorize dealer able to give out the warranty card.

No offense but you don't know the same detailer I do. My paint was in pretty good shape and he didn't have to do a lot of correction so $600 was all I had to shell out. Detailers vary wildly on what they charge anyway.
