Ride Like New - Change your bearings

Hey everyone

Proud over of a 2008 RL. After my upgrade to 19 inch rims , I did not like the ride so when back to stock. However the stock tires were old and I'm not a big fan of Michelins. So went to tire rake and got me some pirelli cinturato p7 tires all round the car. Now the car drives fine but still feel some slight vibration in the gas pedal. I decided that given the car has 120K miles on it so far, it was time to change the bearings. I inquired in this forum and found that Rockauto has TIMKIN bearings that are pretty much identical if not better than OEM but half the cost.

Oh how the ride has completely changed. Its smooth as silk and even more responsive to the pedal. For roughly 400 dollars (parts + labor) in changing the 2 front bearings, I couldn't be happier, and it feels like driving a new car( sometimes even better).

Cheers

Really?? That much difference??? Now I am considering replacing mine on my 06 RL Tech with 120k. How much did your mechanic charge to change them both?

It smoothed out the ride that much at 120k??? Timken has always been a reliable aftermarket replacement for me

Did you buy the whole hub?

The whole hub. I have a guy in Brooklyn that did it for me for 250. Total.

So the parts were about 250 and labor 250 = 500 . For practically a new car ride.

I know it's hard i upgrade the 2nd gen RL, buts it's almost illreplaceable.

not that I have seen but there are other videos on youtube of other models that is similar in process. It's a few extra steps from changing out rotors and brake pads.
