Revisiting the deck lid spoiler install again.
Revisiting the deck lid spoiler install again.
I had the dealer install my deck lid spoiler six months ago , and as you've probably already guessed, I now have a gap in the top center. I spoke with the dealer and they agreed to replace it. The new one arrived and will be installed Tuesday. To prevent this from happening again , I researched the OEM instructions and vluu's install thread and I'm still unsure what advice to give my tech. We discussed it a week ago and he mentioned adding the additional 3M body tape as he was aware of a problem also. My question is, has anyone determined which model number tape is the best choice, both to hold and not to be too thick? I know 3M 5344, 5314, PT1100, and the super heavy duty tape at Home Depot were all mentioned. Since I want to get it right this time, can I have a fresh update on which tape is the best way to go? I'd rather supply the correct tape myself rather than experience another failure.
Part two. I just came in from deswirling/waxing the deck lid in preparation for the new spoiler. I never noticed that the deck lid is slightly deformed in the four bolt locations! It looks though the tech exceded the recommended 6.5 lb ft torque spec. Stay tuned. It looks like a new deck lid/paint is coming. More on Tuesday.
