Reliability at 21K Miles
Since buying my 2005 RL on June 9, 2005, I have put 21K miles on it. Is there anyone over that mileage that could comment about the reliability of their RL?
So far...
1) Tires: They were rotated at 10K miles and will be rotated again this weekend (second A1). I'm guessing they will last for about 15K more miles. No obvious wear patterns or alignment issues.
2) Brakes: Like brand new with no shimmies during hard braking. Of course 95% of my mileage is interstate commuting.
3) Gas mileage: I'm getting between 24 and 26 mpg driving 80 to 85 mph four hours a day.
4) Transmission: Very smooth, and I haven't done the TSB. I don't think I will unless my mileage would improve. Rear dif fluid changed on a B6 around 15K.
5) Paint: Some swirling is becoming obvious in a bright sunny day on the hood. Of course black is tough to deal with. The windshield is also becoming pitted, but the pit marks aren't showing on the hood on front too bad.
6) Interior Aspects: Haven't done the TSB upgrades. Again the XM issue isn't enough of a delay to bother. The driver's seat leather looks like it may turn to garbage at about 60K miles, the cupholder cover squeaks, and the stock floor mat on the driver's side is beginning to wear thin near the gas pedal.
7) NAVI: Works great except on cold mornings and then the colors are dull. The map needs to be upgraded to reflect some new roads.

Great to hear. I will put my all season mats in for the winter so the stock ones will last longer. I do like the look of the stock ones allot though so I keep putting that off. You know it has been cold in the mornings here in northern Va about 35-45 degrees and my Navi cannot be seen for about 1-4 minutes untill the interior warms up. Glad you mentioned that because it was a concern of mine. Great write up and glad to hear it is treating you well.
Also did you by any chance see or ask about what the rear diff fluid looked like when it came out. Does it need to be done every 15000 for city driving? Thanks

Thanks for the update. So far so good on mine although the power port next to the shifter is sticky and (more seriously) the rear differential seems to have a nasty whine at around 70 M/h.

The power outlet beside the shifter is designed to only open 1/2 way when pressed and then must be fully opened with a deliberate push. This is a safety feature so that kids in the front seat can't accidentally open the outlet fully with a bump or by brushing against it. Doing so could expose them to the dangerous electrical current within.

Hehe, thanks for that. Didn't get to that page in the manual yet
It seemed to work too nicely to be broken but I still couldn't quite figure it out. Now if only we knew why they stuck that port so close to the shifter. I guess they don't ever use that power port at Acura.

Oh it fits fine but then it interferes with my hand on the shifter. I noticed that with the V1 power plug with remote display mounted on top. I have to twist it 90 degrees and it's still a little in the way. I'll only use it temporarily that way anyway but the placement is not the best. Forget using one of those compact 110V converters there.

Oh yeah, just have to figure out how. I'll have to noodle on it one weekend afternoon. I'm changing jobs next week so I'll have a few days off. Maybe then I'll have a chance.
