Rebuilt/salvage titles etc

The Troy Group ONLY deals with either theft, water damage, or messed up cars. The white car with 10K miles on it has a rebuilt title on it, that means NO factory warrenty that I was told. They give a 6 month unlimited mile warranty though. So should you consider one of those? or just get one that hasn't been hit? They said all that happend was the front bumper, one side of the suspension was messed up

Unless you rebuild it yourself, avoid the car. You don't know what kind of a job was done to rebuild it, and there's a reason why it has a salvage/rebuild title on it -- the insurance company decided the repairs were worth more than the car, or there was just too much damage to bother repairing.

Salvage/rebuild cars are also worth about half of their siblings, so also be aware of that.

Some insurance companies won't insure a salvage/rebuilt car. Becareful.

Yeah I would avoid it. You can barely find people that change your oil properly these days let alone rebuild a car. They're usually in such a rush to get it back together so they can make money off of it or meet a deadline that a lot of short cuts are taken. Just spend a lil extra dough and get something that should be safe and sound. Believe me if your luck is like mine the day after that 6 month warranty expires the car will probably just fall apart. LOL!

Older mileage cars

I agree with you on the rebuit part, what about a car with more miles? I am offering $15.5K for a 05 with a-spec 82K miles or go with like $21K for 55K miles. I can't find any good deals with low miles unless the car had some kind of issue

Higher mileage cars are fine as long as they were taken care off. Check the condition of the car and have a mechanic go through it (pay them for an hour of their time) and see what you think.

Out here in Cali you also need to get a brake/lamp inspection done before the vehicle can be registered. Like CFoote stated some companies will not insure it. Contact the insurance company if you can to get the reason for the salvage.

Do you know if you need to take it to the CHP to get it inspected as well? Can anyone shed some light on this (if they've done it.. what do they check for, etc? Since I feel like I'm going to get hassled because I'm modded..)

I heard you can get the brake and lamp inspected at a random body shop and have them sign off on it.

info

I bought the 30 day carfax and found out that the 10K acura was a total loss car. ALOT of those troy cars are flood total loss cars including that es350 for $23K do people actually pay that for those kind of cars? I talked to the dealership and every car has had some issue there. what kind of a dealership is that?

We had to recently go through this with my boys Maxima that he totaled. We bought it back from the insurance company for $300.00, fixed the entire front end for $900 in new parts (wholesale). Car is as good as new, but with a salvage title.
Brake/lamp inspection is done at a licensed shop. They check that all exterior lights work including reverse. Some shops will check the headlight aim and height, some will skip it. They will then test drive the car to test the brakes, overall driveability. It took us about 10 minutes total and $75.00.

total loss etc

the car was a total loss in the first year it was driven, so it had over 40K+ in damage? don't you think that was pretty bad? the maxima you are talking about might be older and not worth that much maybe like $3K (no idea the year) and if you have $2K worth of damage it isn't worth fixing to the insurance company but it has to be something big to total a new car right?

So you didn't have to goto the CHP?

They TEST DRIVE MY car? My car is EXTREMELY low.

And btw, did that shop check your headlight aim and height? If not, let me know.

I believe we took the vehicle inspection to AAA. CHP generally does not like to be bothered with this type of stuff.

"And btw, did that shop check your headlight aim and height? If not, let me know."

Could you answer that one?
