Rear bumper chrome trim

The Rear bumper trim on my '05 RL (96K) is starting to flake off and peel away. Unlike alot of the trim/molding on the RL this one isn't an adhesive piece. Anyone know of a good product to freshen this up? I'm assuming it will mean sanding away all the rest of the chrome paint, re-primer and then re-paint? Is there a product that can be applied by brush? I don't want to tape off the whole back of the car to spray couple trim pieces if I don't have to.

No I meant just below the tail lights as it wraps around the sides of the car. Its flaking on both sides. I looked today and I guess it is one piece of molding. They call it "Passenger rear bumper trim molding" Only the top half has the chrome. The bottom half is painted the same color as the car. It looks like it affixed with clips, not an adhesive. Ebay shows ~$90 for a replacement piece. Im hoping for a quick fix for the chrome only? The bottom portion of the trim is fine. Im open to ideas if you guys have any! Thanks

I replaced all 4 of mine when I bought my 08 RL. There is no "quick fix". You could sand and paint or replace them

Those pieces are on every corner. They just pop off. Start from the b-pillar and work your way toward mid-line.

Mine were flaking on my '07 and when I bought 4 new ones, I had them covered with 3M Paint Protection Film to keep them from doing it again. Been a year, so far so good. Car washes are death on those and the lower front grille trim.

Did you buy new OEM parts? How $$ much did they run you? Any tricks on Popping these loose? Thanks!

Yes, I did and they're about $100 / ea. If you pull the bumpers off, they're easier to pop out from the back side but you can just pull the old ones off, start at one end and work your way around to the other. This is a piece that I think Honda really cheaped out on, unbefitting a $55K car.

This one among quite a few others. Still, the CMBS RL was very appropriately priced, and the ROI of the RL was rather poor.
