Rattles: Cause and possible solution

A rattle had developed a few weeks ago. At first, I thought it was coming from the center console, as reported by others. In fact, Acura has a new bulletin out that decribes a fix for this. But I soon realized that the center console was not the source. Actually, I'm beginning to believe that it's very difficult to find the source for a rattle in the RL, maybe due to the Bose sound cancelling affect.

Nevertheless, I was able to isolate the rattle to the sun roof. When opened, the rattle was gone, when closed, the rattle came back. As a fix, I applied WD-40 to the rubber seals around the window when it's in the open-up position. I found the seals to be quite flimsy, and dirt had accumulated on them. Now, the rattle seems to be gone when the window is closed. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

YMMV.

this sounds like the rattle I had in my 02 TL-S, which was the rubber seals squeaking on the paint in the sunroof. the fix was to put teflon tape on the paint preventing the rubber from squealing.

I had the same thing with the hardtop on my S2000. A little shin-etsu grease fixed it right up.

I too used some shinetsu grease from my S2000 to fix this rattle as well

I would be concerned with using WD40 as it may cause premature wear and cracking to the rubber seal.

Yes, I was wondering about that. Thanks. Where do you get the grease?
