Radio (FM) suddenly goes distorted

Hi all,

I've noticed lately on my 10 RL as i'm heading to the office in the morning I'm listening to the radio on a FM frequency and then all of a sudden it cuts off and then acts as if it goes to another frequency. The dial is still on the same frequency however what comes out of the speakers is VERY distorted and at a much lower tone.

I've tried changing the radio to AM and going back to FM and it continues. In addition, i change from CD and back to radio and the same thing..

The odd thing is when I get back in the car after work and turn the radio on, it sounds normal and after approx 15-20 min it does it all over again..

Has anyone experienced this? If so, does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your feedback..

Fix:stop listening to FM radio. Ever heard of CD's, iPod's MP3's?

It's likely an issue with the antenna in your RL, I'm not sure for the RL but i think for newer cars, the antenna is tied in with the rear windshield defroster. Any issues with that? Check the service manual (hopefully one of your RL brethren has a copy) to see if that can be the culprit.

Is the Antenna on the RL tied to the Rear windshield defroster.. My RL has a "shark fin" and I thought that was also a Radio antenna or is that just for the Sat Radio?

The radio antenna is in the rear windshield. The defroster can interfere.

The XM antenna moved around in the RL between model years. In some models, it is the the fun, but my 2007 didn't have a fun at all. IIRC some models it was there, but didn't have a purpose.
