Radio "extension" mode

In my 2005 RL, I've found that by pressing the mode button on the steering wheel I can get the radio to go to an "extension" mode. What exactly does this do? Is it a BT or auxillary function?
Thanks in advance!

There was a factory option audio expansion called music link. Supposedly it wasn't very good though. Maybe that's installed in your car somewhere? I would think it would be in the glove box or console if it is.
