Question about seat belt warning

I was shocked that the car didn't go crazy with warnings when my wife unbuckled her seat belt for a brief moment while going down the highway tonight. I tested the driver side and same thing, no warning. We have an 07 TL and if you unbuckle your seat belt while the car is moving it starts blaring warnings at you. Has this feature been deactivated somehow on our car or do the RL's just not come with it?

I'm not worried about the warning so much. If it is supposed to warn you it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the SRS in the car. I'd hate to find out the hard way that something like the airbags or belt tensioners don't work properly...2006 RL BTW.

I have an 07 RL as well and mine has the warning when either mine or the passenger's seat belt is unbuckled when the car is moving. It kicks in with a chime followed by "Please fasten your seatbelt".

^+1. No airbag lights, but definitely a red light on the dash, a voice over the sound system, and possibly a message on the MID. I may be wrong about the MID message, just off hand.

Do you get a red light in the bottom right of the speedometer console?

There MID shows fasten seat belt and a pic of the belt.

Wonder if it's something they added on the 07. Hopefully an 05-06 owner or two can chime in...

The '95 Legend had a red light on the dash. I'm sure they didn't go away from that. Do you have a light? It is very possible your fuse is blown, or the latch sensor isn't working.

You should have a yello ! on your speedometer, the same one that covers all warnings.

I have an 06 RL Tech and get the warning chime and verbal announcement when the seatbelt is removed (driver/passenger). The yellow "i" icon on the dash also lights up.

I also get a red seat belt light to the right of the speedometer.

when first unbuckled, red light appears in fuel and temp gauge
after 20 or 30 seconds, you should get yellow warning in speedo gauge as well as audible warning

Gotcha. I guess I'll go try it again. I get the red light on the dash but haven't let it ride 20-30 seconds to see if I get the escalated warnings. In our TL it immediately starts screaming at you.

MY 04 TL does this...I usually will go thru diagnostic and airbag light will stay on. When that happens, my seatbelt warning doesn't come on. Until I click and unclick it a bunch of times.

So it works. I got on the highway tonight and unbuckled it for a bit longer. The MID and audible warnings come on like they're supposed to. Thanks guys!

Update: My post above was when I (driver) unbuckled. Yesterday, my wife in passenger seat unbuckled to reach something in back seat. Like OP, no warnings whatsoever came on. It was unbuckled for at least 15 seconds.

My '07 is almost instant for both seats. I wonder if they were programmed differently.

NO, I think they are both supposed to advise you because there's an internal thing that says airbag on or not if there is a passenger, no? So just click and unclick it a BUNCH of times until you get the seatbelt guy on the dash...then you should be ok next time you turn on car. Maybe they get old or the contacts get corroded on teh seatbelt buckle or maybe crap falls in there.
