Problem with front door actuator

Hi everyone. I have a 2005 RL and know very little about cars. Recently the driver's side front door stopped locking/unlocking. All of the other doors lock/unlock using the remote and switch on the driver's side door. Also the keyless entry does not work when I grab the driver's side door handle but I'm not sure if that is a related problem. I called the service tech at the dealer and he said it sounded like a faulty actuator. They quoted me $500 to replace something they called the Electric Latch Module but I found an front door actuator OEM part on line for $40. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to fix this while not getting robbed by the dealer? Thanks.

$40 and an hour or so of your time.......

the inside door panel has to come off to expose the inner workings.
the inside door handle has a screw hidden behind a cover.
then, I believe there are more screws hidden through the door panel and along the edges

once the door panel is off or hanging to the side, you can work on getting the old actuator off and installing the new one

Is it easy to replace? Seems like getting the door panel off could be problematic for someone that is not a natural DIY'er.

https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...+door+actuator

try some of these videos.

Honda and acura's are closely related and one door might be the same as your RL

He was telling the OP if he couldn't find a specific RL video he could reference another video from a Honda or other Acura for the DIY...

Door panel removal can be found here: https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...irrors-911689/

Please do a search before starting a new thread. There are a good number based solely on door actuator problems.

thus why OP could view any Honda or Acura video and learn how to take off the door panel, as most of them are closely related.

Maybe it's time to update the garage and add a section with consolidated DIY links.
