Plasti Dip OEM Rims - Murdered Out 2010 RL
Finally murdered out my 2010 RL! I plasti dipped the factory rims...check out the instruction videos on youtube from Fonzie at DipYourCar.com. The biggest pain was actually prepping the rims; I sprayed the rims with a degreaser then went to a coin-op carwash and power washed the shit out of them. After that, I soaked a rag in rubbing alcohol wiped down the residual grime by hand. I placed garbage bags around the rotor and brakes to protect them. I used approximately 3 cans of Performix Plasti Dip in matte black; I found a code online for advancedauto.com and purchased 3 cans for $18. I also purchased the Performix Glossifier but I'm kinda liking the matte finish, so I decided to hold off on that step. I'm still debating whether I should peel the plasti dip off from the lug nuts and Acura emblem so they stand out in the chrome finish.
Still can't believe how easy it was! My neighbor rolled up and first thing he said was "you got new rims!"

A cheap and temporary but effective mod. Don't be surprised if you catch some . Check out what Carbon Legend has done. I think he is on his 3rd full body "dip".
Not sure why you would cover the brakes and hub with a plastic bag when you could just paint the wheels off the car.

Yea I'm obviously not expecting it to last forever, I mean it cost me $20! This was more of an experiment to see how it turned out, I'll be happy if this dip lasts me through the rest of the summer but overall I'm happy with the results. The reason I did the plastic bag method was because I was strapped for time...I'm working 60-80 hour weeks! But your right, proper way to do it would have been to remove the rims, and I did have a hard time spraying the back parts. If I removed the rims I would have got a much more even coat all around.
As for plasti dipping body panels, that is definitely a bad idea, there's no way it will last and unless you have professional tools for application it will look terrible. I did think about doing a matte black vinyl wrap, but not interested in spending upwards of 2K for that.

Not bad looking for plastidip. As others have mentioned, you need to "black out" a few more accents on your car (window trim, grille, headlight tint, handles, etc) to achieve a "murdered out" look. Good luck!

They likely did, but that is the nature of the application. Plastidip is designed to peel off. Any road debris or nick will cause it to peel. The best use for plastidip is to determine if the look is right for your car. If it is, and you want a permanent solution, powder coating is the way to do it.
