PAX tire durability

Just passed 80,000 miles today on my original set of Michelin PAX tires. Not sure what those Odyssey owners are complaining about. The ride is smooth and quiet. I still have a few thousand miles left before the wear indicators show.

A private tire store (owned by a friend) quoted about $1700 for a new set mounted and balanced. The best stealer price I found was $2500.

For 80k+ miles, that's not bad! Glad to hear you like them; but you're the first owner I've seen on here that's said that.

That's great. I got a little more than 50,000 from mine. Just replaced them a couple of months with a take-off set I got off eBay for $700 shipped (PAX tires Mounted), wheels (mint), and TPMS sensors).

I worked for Michelin in Detroit working with the car makers in the '90's when PAX was being developed and marketed to Cadillac, Honda, and a few others (Cadillac cancelled the program at the last minute...it was to go on the XLR).
The concept was far reaching and pushed the envelope too far to make it commercially feasible for mainstream cars, but the automakers loved the fact they could get run flat capability without compromise in fuel efficiency and ride quality which are major issues with standard run-flats.

Glad you got 80k! Michelin quality!

I got just under 50,000 miles on my original set of PAX tires. They still had decent tread left but rain/snow performance had decreased noticeably. I paid about $1800 to replace them with new PAX tires last summer. 80,000 miles is very impressive.

The Odyssey owners had a right to complain - they were getting nowhere near the mileage that the RL owners have gotten from the PAX tires.

I believe the issue with the Odyssey was not the PAX tires themselves but the geometry and weight distribution of the vehicle caused the premature wear.
