Painting calipers...

I'm sick of my squeaky ass brakes. I don't know if they just didn't grease the shims or they're crap pads but they squeak constantly under light braking at any speed under about 20mph. So it's time for some new brake pads, possibly rotors too. I figured while I have stuff apart I'll paint the calipers gloss black too. My plan is to just paint the entire caliper including the ACURA logo and then lightly sand the paint off the logo once everything dries to keep that machined look.

Has anybody done this, (as far as painting the whole thing and then sanding the logo afterwards)? Any pictures? I'm mostly questioning if this is a good way to go about it. I guess I could always tape off the logo somehow but I figured this way will probably leave cleaner lines on the logo. Thoughts?

If you get close, you will notice the "ACURA" has circular grooves machined into it. I don't believe sanding will get the paint out of the grooves. We talked about this just before you got here and devoted a thread to it. Zelaya and another member each did theirs and documented it well. Do a search. I'll look for it tomorrow if you don't find it.

I did them on mine last year. This is the only photo I find but I can load more tonight when I get home.

oo7spy is right, the ACURA letters are not smooth and will be extremely difficult to "sand". I did this on only of my calipers and it took forever to get all the paint off. Do yourself a big favor, take the time to mask the letters. The finished product will look better and you'll save time in the long-run.

I just painted my letters. If you want the machine look, you'll have to tape them off.

What I have done before for something similar is if its to hard to tape off, Instead if taping it I use a thick grease like valve/sealant grease to cover the letters....then I paint it and once it dries...I rub off the grease

What if the grease gets on a part that isnt the letters? Does that part of the caliper come out not painted too?
