P0420 code

So I have the annoying P0420 code. Nothing stating that it is the o2 sensor causing the issue. This engine code seems to come on at random times. It would come on stay on for a few days, then disappear for like 2 weeks, then come back. I kept thinking that I was getting gas with maybe more ethanol than it should have because this issue seems to come up after 10-50 miles after a fill up. I do not experience any loss of power or bad fuel economy, I'm getting about 26-28 highway and 16-20 city. I've seen other forums say that resetting the ecu fixes it, or to just replace the cat with a TL Type S converter to save some money, but since this problem is more intermittent I was wondering if any experienced RL owners out there would like to provide any insight to my siuation.

Well, when I go to get my engine mount replaced I'll have them take a look at it. It's just such a weird thing having that pop up yet I get no symptoms of having a P4020 engine code.

I finally found out what was causing my P0420 code to go off. Basically my gas cap needs to be tightened at least 3 clicks for whatever reason. I did a test when I did just 1 click my code would come on, if I tightened it with 3 or more clicks it would go off. It's weird but at least it's something simple and not expensive.

All Honda's are susceptible to this, but most have a "check gas cap" message to go along with it. Even our 2007 CR-V can tell you what the problem is with more than a code.

Thanks for finishing the thread.

It always baffled me why this would happen... but I ask the same about people who leave their cap at the pump. #theworldisdistracted
