One more in the Family!

My father-in-law was visiting us this past weekend. He was looking at an RL back in Columbus OH when I picked up mine last July, but didn't make any progress with that dealer. Anyway, I called my local Arcura dealer (where I purchased my RL and my wife's TL) Saturday morning and asked my trusty salesman to get one with CMBS/PAX ready for him to look at.

We got their around 3PM, test drove an '07 Lakeshore Silver with CMBS/PAX (only one on the lot) and we drove it back to my place by 6PM!

I then spent the next two hours in the back seat showing off all the features of the car! Time well spent in my opinion.

Converting them one at a time. Co-workers are next!

Attaboy Henry! *applause*

My sis ditched her 06 GS (tranny failed) for an 07 RL this summer and loves it.

I am working on my bro now (06 Avalon LTD) for an RL.

Funny thing is they, and others have made similar comments about the RL: 'I never knew about this car.'

It was a lot of fun witnessing firsthand the joy of someone else discovering all of the RL's features!

Oh by the way, they were about to pull the trigger on a Cadillac STS.

While the STS is a nice car, here's a little sidebar:

When we leased my wife's '06 STS over a year and a half ago, we got a good deal (for Cadillac). To get her payments down, I violated the usual rules and plopped down an additional $5,000.

Fast forward to today ... according to Kelly Blue Book, she is still $9,000 upside down after about 20 months into a 39-month lease. Keep in mind that's in spite of the fact I paid it down 5 grand at the start. The way my math works, that means she's actually $14,000 upside down.

That's the story of her life with Cadillacs. She loves them, but we get royally screwed to the wall every time we trade, because their trade-in value is the worst in the industry. Well, maybe Kia is a little worse. Nevertheless, they cost a lot to buy and they don't give you squat for them at trade time.

Now, that's why I insisted on a lease this time around, so we have the option of riding it out and handing it back at the end of the lease. But you know how it is - that new CTS has her eye, and she'd like to trade early ...

Morale: Cadillac = Nice cars, horrific trade-in value.

^ Oh, and by comparison, I traded my leased '06 TL after less than 1-1/2 years, and it was pretty much a wash between trade-in value and lease payoff. And I didn't put a dime down on the TL.

So, do you agree with your wife that the STS is a "nice car"? I had heard the STS was a POS. But maybe that was the old CTS. My memory is going

That's pretty bad. And people here complain about the resale value of the 2G RL. Sure it's not as good as the TL, but it can't be as bad as the STS.

Wow. You're still able to find an 07? Was it new or demo and do you mind telling us how much the price before tax and title was?

Yeah, actually, her STS is pretty nice. Ride is a little better than the RL (IMO), but not floaty. The car is tight and well put together. It has comfortable seats and decent room front and rear. Hers has the wimpy 255hp V-6, but otherwise it's a pretty nice car (and the hp has now been raised to 304, so the new ones should run better).

BTW, she had a CTS before the STS, and it was trouble-free, too. They just suck on trade-in value.

My dealer seems to get a lot of "Top Hat" or Factory Program cars. This one had just hit 4k miles and was in great shape. Anyway, my father-in-law was able to pick it up for 44K. It had been sitting in the showroom for three weeks so he had some leverage. Of course he added the 100k bumper-to-bumper wrap.

New update. After having the car for a full week, he and his wife are VERY pleased with the car and they are both happy that they didn't go with the Caddy!
