Odd blower motor problem?

I've got a 2005 RL nearing 100K miles. I know the 05's are plagued with AC problems, but I think this one is a bit different. I read most of the existing threads, didn't see anything that sounded like my issue.

Just a couple weeks back I noticed the fan speeds for AC or heat were erratic, even on manual setting. The fan speed seems to fluctuate faster & slower. I do get both heat and cold air when I adjust the temperature. It's just the fan speed that seems to be nagging. Every Acura I've ever had has lost the blower motor, but when those went they made odd noises or just didn't operate at all. It was actually the reason I got rid of my older 97 TL because they wanted $1,200 to replace it (all labor because the dash had to come off almost completely). But this blower is quiet, no unusual noises coming out of it. I think max fan speed now is more like a 3 or 4, compared to a max of 7.

Is this possible?

IMO honda blower motors just suck overall. Even the one in my Pilot went out @ 55k miles. Really, how hard is it to make a blower motor that lasts? It's not like the motor is pulling a huge load. At least make them easy to swap out instead of burying them under a mess of overlapping panels that take the skin off every single knuckle!

I don't know where the one in the RL is, but the Pilot one is 3 screws and about 20 minutes to replace, so at least they got that right

Although the percentage of reported A/C problems were more commonly associated to the 2005 MY, I would not say the model is plagued by A/C problems.

Aside from a failing blower, or perhaps electrical fluctuations, the RLs telematics are designed that when the 'speak' button is selected the fan speed lowers to reduce interference with the microphones. I am not implying that you are experiencing this as a result of prompting the VR with the 'speak' button, but perhaps there is a short in that function causing the fan speed to oscillate?

That's an interesting angle. It maybe something is going on with that. Maybe I'll disconnect the battery to force a kind of system reset, see what that does.

Just to entertain the idea it may be the blower motor itself for a moment, anyone know how hard it is to replace? I located the diagram, looks like it's somewhere just behind the glove box. Usually I can't get my hands in these small nooks and crannies!
