No Heat! Help!

Hey All,

About to pull the trigger on a 2005 RL. Car is decent with good service history- deal is solid. For some odd reason the car has no heat or A/C. No leaks around the water pump and the car has adequate coolant that tests out to -60 Driving the car this past weekend for about 30 minutes - no issue with overheating and the car does blow air.... just lukewarm regardless of setting. Any insight into this?

Thanks!

It is a known issue with the 05 and some 06 RL's. My advice, keep looking around and try to find an 07+ model.

The number is very good on the car.... almost a give-away

I am far from a mechanic, however, I like to thank that I am decent with a wrench. What is the worst case scenario? Any ideas?

well... those two systems only meet in a few ways.
So I think you may have two issues...

To start you would want to through trouble shooting steps.

Does the fan in the front of the car and in the dash work?
Is the thermostat good?
Are the climate controls functioning?
Is the A/C clutch working?

The worst case would be a burned up compressor and metal in the system, that could lead to a FULL replacement which is expensive.
Best case would be a recharge of the A/C system and a thermostat.

Smart money would be to buy it and get an extended warranty, then file a claim.

The problem with the heater and A/C not working is you don't know if it is the common components just before the vent or individual parts from each system. Take it to an HVAC shop and have it diagnosed.

Does the fan in the front of the car and in the dash work? Fan in the car blows air (feels like outside air)
Is the thermostat good? Not leaking?!
Are the climate controls functioning? Climate controls are functioning as well as those within the navigation system
Is the A/C clutch working? Not sure.... Didn't hear it engage... reminds me of my 2004 TL in which near the end the engagement was sporadic

Any DIY on this Stator? I have been looking deeper and I suspect that this may be the issue

The stator is a very common issue with 2005 & 2006, but would that affect the heat?

UPDATE -

Spent some time tinkering with the car today.

The air does in fact blow - fan speed changes throughout the 7(or so) speeds with no issue. When clicking AC on/AC off there is no "click" or sound of an engaging compressor. ALSO in the diag menu there are no fasults for A/c. Hmm

Seems odd - am I on the right path that the compressor would need to be replaced OR should I check a fuse first?

Thanks all!

You can check the compressor by applying 12V directly to the power connection. If it kicks on, it's probably your stator. If it doesn't, it's probably your compressor.
