Hey guys, first post here, I'm currently driving a Mini Cooper but I'm a VW guy at heart.....anyways, looking to better myself and get into an Acura....an RL to be exact....I'm not sure why but I'm stuck on the RL....I'm just starting my search but 1 question I have right now....I know to get an 06 to do away with the first year stuff (My cooper is 02, one of the first here in the US)....but I keep seeing "tech package".....what is it and why do I want to get it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....hope to be posing my new ride soon.....

Welcome! I am a Acura/Honda guy at heart who has driven VW's before and have found myself migrating back. You won't go wrong with the RL, as I'm sure you'll hear over and over again fom this group of dedicated owners. I traded my 05 for an 09. Tech, of course, since I'm a tech guy and enjoy all the "stuff" that people come to expect from a car in this catagory. Nav, back up camera, bluetooth, ipod inputs, etc. I want it all. I'm sure you'll find a complete list of 2006 tech equipment on this site someplace. Once you do, it's time to ask yourself if you are a "tech guy". Some are, some are not, but those of us who are don't really ask ourselves why. We just ask "why ask".

Packaging and the associated content varies by year.

For 2006, the RL came in these variants for the USA:

1. Base (same as 05 RL)

2. Tech (included the bundled CMBS, ACC and PAX)

3. Hawaii

4. Alaska

 

I have a Base 06 and have been very happy with it. Purchased as CPO in April 08 with 24 k; it now has 47 k.
Other places in this forum discuss CPO vs non-CPO, mileage on the car, and cost. Because I was able to, I preferred to buy CPO and also purchase AcuraCare (not 3rd party) extended warranty coverage. Many say the 06 is very reliable but the car is complex and even diagnosis can be expensive if not a warranted repair.
Be sure all the Tech Service Bulletins (TSB) and recalls have been performed and also be sure you have a servicing dealer with a good reputation within convenient distance, that too, has been mentioned by others.

Yes, and there is a lot of confusion on the 06 Tech Package nomenclature.

The 07's and forward, Tech Package means Nav System and associated goodies.

For 06 Tech Package meant CMBS/ACC and PAX. I see many ads for 06 Tech Package, but they mean it has the nav, and not that it has the CMBS/ACC/PAX. Look for the plastic Acura shield on the grill and the CMBS Off button on the dash.

For 05 and 06, having the base model means you have 07+ Tech Package content.
