"Love it so far..."

Just give it a little time. You'll not only love it more but you'll realize what everyone else is missing. Welcome to the club.

I will work on the pictures. I do have a couple questions. Do you all use high octane fuel and why doesn't the RL have auto headlights? (Maybe it does and I don't know how to use them).

We do have auto headlights. On the light control stalk, select "auto". Done.

I use premium because the owners' manual says to. You can run regular with some loss of power and potential loss of mileage, though the latter is debatable. The price differential is about $4 a tank compared to regular, so it's not a big deal to use premium.

what exactly does "Auto" do? Does it turn them on and off automatically when it gets dark?

"Auto" turns on the headlights and all exterior lights and the instrument panel when it senses low ambient light.
I believe the sensor is located on top of the dashboard.

What happens if you leave the lights on Auto and forget to turn them off? Does the car automatically turn them off for you after a few minutes?

Yes. In any setting for the lights, they turn off in 15 seconds as preset at the factory.

Reference: 2006 RL manual, page 138

You can even set the amount of time it takes for them to turn off: 0, 15, 30, or 60 seconds.

Reference: 2006 RL manual, page 115

Auto headlights

Hello...I just joined this forum after purchasing an 05 RL with 36k...i love the car so far. I do have several questions for the group. The auto headlights turn on fine however when the car is turned off and the door is opened to exit the vehicle, the car dings at me until I manually turn the knob from the auto position to the off position. I've never seen this before on auto headlights. Any suggestions? Second question...the display indicates that the key FOB battery is low...I could understand this and switched to key FOB #2, however the car displays the same message for key FOB #2...the chances that both key FOB's batteries growing weak enough with in the same 24hr period is slim considering #1 has been used 95% of the time. Both remotes functioned properly last week. I'd appreciate anyones insight into either of these issues. Thanks.

You can leave the headlight setting on auto, it will ding until you close the door, then with some delay lights will turn off automatically. No way to get rid of the dinging that I am aware of.

Batteries drain whether they are being used or not, it's quite possible both could be going at the same time since they are the same age.

Batteries last about 2 years whether or not it is you primary use fob. If one needs batteries to be replaced, it is wise to replace batteries on both fobs.

The AUTO lights and reminder chimes are explained on pages 140-142 of the Owner's manual.

Here is an online PDF copy...also available from your MyAcura.com site:

Great...thanks guys. I have an appointment at the dealer to get the batts replaced in the key FOBs. It surprises me that Acura would intentionally program the auto headlights to act that way...I don't recall ever seeing that before...oh well...I'll get used to the dinging or flip the headlight switch when I get out. Thanks

This "feature" was corrected for the 2006 MY. Thank goodness my car doesn't do that. Not much you can do, unfortunately.
