Need some transmission compatibility info

So, I was I here whining about vss getting damaged a few weeks ago. I had it working for a while and trusted it so I put it in manual and ran it through second and when I shifted to third the car shook hard and kicked itself to neutral and speedo died. Limp it home and the vss are toasted again. Pulled the trans out and took it to a shop, they want 2200 to rebuild it because it toasted the bearings and some pieces made their way into some teeth. That's way more than I want to spend.

my question is, do you guys know if all trans from 05-08 are compatible? I keep getting conflicting stories. Some say 05-06 are different from 07-08. The part numbers seem to just have the year of the car at the start of the part number, I.e. 2005 part number is 5rjaaa5. For 2006, 6rjaaa5.. and so on.

I would like to get an 08 for the lower miles, but haven't found a definitive part number to say they are the same.

U need to get 4 letter code if your transmission. Usually starts with a B. Byba. , bgra. Etc
I doubt trannys are compatable.
2200 is not bad if they do it right (clean valve bodies, put sonnax valves)
What year is your car? There were few issues on 05-06.. then some were fixed on 07-08. But some were not

It's an 05. I know the trans code is Mjba, I know for sure that 05-08 is mjba. I believe they used that designation till the end of the rl.

What is throwing me off is that some rebuild kits show 05-06 being a different kit# than the 07-08. Although most places show 05-08 being the same kit.

If if I were to pay for a rebuild they would be doing bearings and at least a new counter shaft (I can see damaged teeth through the sensor window) but at this point I'm considering just buying a low mile junk yard one and getting rid of the car.

Its unfortunate that there isnt another car that we can interchange parts with

I have never heard of any transmission difference from 2005-2008. In 2009, they made changes to the shifter and ECU shift timing, but I am willing to bet any 2005-2008 will work just fine. We know the engines are identical, so what else could be different?

if for sale.. I'd just slap on a used transmission. 2005. And call it a day. Flush with valvoline maxlife and drive.
A counter shaft.
Another shaft and things will cost well over 2500.
Rebuilding is a good project if there are major design flaws inside tranny That need to be fixed and u plan on putting a lot of miles on it. Fastest and cheapest way is to slap on a used transmission

Thanks for the replies,

i definitely agree that 05-08 all "should" work. But my daily commute has changed and I drive around 85 miles a day now. I need to get this thing running so I can sell/trade it for a Tsx or civic. I Worry if I spend spend 900$ on an 07-08 trans I might have to spend another 300$ to restock it when it doesn't play well with my older Bcm. I can get an 05 with around 100k for 450$ and no shipping cause it's local.

I Like mrvtech's plan stick with an 05 cause its 100% compatibile without question.

yes exactly.. 100k is nothing in rl tranny. 07-08 may bolt on but may be there was software upgrade. Or something else that won't make it a quick swap. Car-part.com does not list them as compatible. I am not a transmission guru.. I did rebuild a couple.
