Need Help!!

Hey all,

I took delivery of the RL this weekend and I am loving it. I have to quick questions though:

1) Is the driver side door handle also supposed to unlock the doors by placing your hand behind it? Only my passenger one does that.

2) I saw in here a way to adjust when the Auto headlights come on but now I can't find it. Can someone please post how to do it if its not too much trouble?

Thank you.

1. Yes, as long as you have the key fob with you.

2. Just rotate the head on the blinker arm so it's pointing to "auto" for them to come on automatically. If there is some other method via programming the MID then I'm not familiar with it.

There is an MID setting in the 2006 called Lighting Setup, and under that layer, three different choices, one of which is Auto Light Sensitivity. That may help. I am assuming the dimming is associated with headlights as well, and you may be on MAX or HIGH. Try MIN. The choices are:

MAX
The headlights come onwhen it is
bright.
HIGH
The headlights come onwhen it is
somewhat bright.
MID
The headlights come onwhen it is as
bright as sunset or sunrise.
LOW
The headlights come onwhen it is
somewhat dark.
MIN
The headlights come on when it is
dark

In terms of the handle, the '05 had known problems and most owners got the handles replaced. That sade, the problem was typically with the handle not locking as opposed to no unlocking. Make sure you are grabbing (or touching) the back of the handle and not touching the outside dimple at the same time.

ahhhh thats it, thanks a lot

I don't think my driver door is working properly. When I put my hand in behind the handle it doesn't unlock. Rubbing the dimple works sometimes not always.

You can also change the handle behavior with the MID, between unlocking just one door or all doors.

Also understand how the handle works. Touching the outside locks it. Touching the inside and pulling unlocks it. If you grab the handle to unlock, and you are touching the outside, you are giving the car the signal to both lock and unlock. For me, it always locked because the way I grabbed it, the outside was always touched first.

Try the exagerated open only by touching the inside of the handle, and locking by just brushing the outside handle (does not have to be the dimple). Then you will get used to the discrete actions, and can modify over time once you get used to it.

I think it is a great feature. It only has not worked for me after I went through a high pressure "Laser Wash" car wash. It worked the next day.

I wash the car by hand all the time and soaking the lock and handle with a stream from hose does not cause any issues. I do have to remove the key fob from my pants when I wash the car because the force of the streaming water on the outside of the handle simulates a touch, so the car is always beeping indicating the lock command is being used.

Trust me, I got pissed off and started rubbing the outside of the handle like I was expecting a genie to pop out but it still didn't work....

The door handles are the most infuriating part of this car for me.

Mine is in right now having both handles replaced. That makes 4 for the passenger side and 3 for the driver's side.
