NavTraffic-LA

My NavTraffic seems to work OK, at least it has pretty colors, but the information is bogus. Jams do not show up, accidents heard on the radio do not appear and traffic velocity/density is garbage. I can be the only car on the freeway and the display shows conjestion! The TV newscast maps that show traffic speeds from the freeway sensors are incredibly good and real time. I thought that NavTraffic utilized the same information. I have had major Caltrans work in progress with 3 lanes shut down and it doesn't show up.
If others are experiencing invalid information then I would like to know so that we can tell the appropriate providers that it is a failure.
Even if you don't live in LA area, have you experienced the same problems?

Yeah, once in the last week..... Download must have been delayed, because XM Traffic had been reporting it for the last 15 minutes.... Hmmmm....wonder if this has to do with the delay in the XM system installed in the car.... I heard a software patch was on the way...

As I've posted before, my NavTraffic never worked in any areas of Miami during the 5 months I owned the car. It didn't work before the upgrade and it didn't work after the upgrade (that resulted in the XM delay). When I asked the salesman why it never worked he said it was because no local signals were being broadcast (not from XM, from the DOT or some other government organization). He said areas where signs displayed "accident ahead" or "right lane closed", etc. were the only areas where Nav Traffic would work... and that encompasses maybe 2 roads in Miami. Sounds like a crock, but I'm not too worried about it anymore.

It's been pretty hit or miss for me. Sometimes it shows correct information, sometime it doesn't. I would say for the most part it is not very accurate. I haven't taken the time to compare what nav traffic shows to what sigalert or an online version shows. I am usually driving around north LA (5, 134, 101, 170, 405).

This morning: 170 S @ 134. 134 - all lanes closed by Caltrans for hours. It did not show up on the map.
If they expect people to pay for this feature they had better improve it. The 1 year free is coming up for some early purchasers.

Thanks for the heads up on the NavTraffic guys. We just installed the Pioneer AVIC-D1 in our minivan and were deciding on whether or not to add the XM NavTraffic. I guess we'll wait until the system is a bit more 'established'.
