Mud Flaps Question

I am thinking of getting a set to stop the dirt from being tossed up on the sides of the car.

Question, do they work and to what degree, I have a white RL, thanks in advance.

I like the splash guards since they are color matrched witht he car. I have found they do a decent job of protecting the lower skirts from debris. With a white car the 'protection' should be noticable.

I also have a white RL. GET THE FLAPS!
They keep a lot of crud off the car and make car washes much easier. They also blend into the car very well.

I just had mine installed and it looks good. Color matching is great.

I'm thinking about buying them online and installing them myself. Think I have seen them on http://www.hondacuraworld.com for about $84.50... includes shipping. That's the best deal so far. Anyone else know of a better deal? I have a Nighthawk Black, so I know it will help the dirt on the bumper. It's definitely a DIY project.... probably about an hour to put on all 4.

My 05 RL had them when I bought it. With the white paint they have saved my lower panels many times over the past 18 months. You won't regret getting them.

I'm puzzled as I believe the RL comes with them installed. I've never seen an RL without them, even when they roll right off the delivery truck.

That was the best price I found also.

The dealership to the north of me puts them on all their RLs while the one to the south (where I bought mine) doesn't. Based on the two dealerships, I'm thinking that they're a high markup item that makes them a few bucks.

I didn't get any painted mudflaps with mine either. I wouldn't be able to use them anyway when I get the bodykit.

Thanks guys I always thought they came with them. The 04s did. But you are right, they are add-ons.

If it takes you an hour to put the splashguards on.... It took me less than 15 minutes for all four.

I did not install mudflaps on my '05 desert mist and surprisingly, I am having no major problems with dirt/debris, even with a muddy 1/2 mile driveway and occasionally, some rather messy dirt roads. However, I'm probably not as meticulous as most here...the car is gonna get muddy out where I live whether it has mudflaps or not. It gets washed frequently by me. Every other car I've ever owned has had mudflaps...3 Volvos and 2 Hondas...I just thought the RL looked better without them.

Red face

The odd thing with these mudflaps in they have cavities that fill up with sand and dirt, which then winds up on my garage floor. Also the wheel wells are lined in a felt like material that absorbs a lot of water. That too winds up draining onto the garage floor more than other cars I have owned.

But I'd prefer the RL stays splatter free and I clean the garage floor. Funny thing I read recently is that Honda owners are more likely to vacuum the garage! So now I am VERY paranoid to find out where those spy cameras are hiding in my garage!

My '94 Honda mudflaps have those...on the backside...also a hole on the front side that will get stopped up...I have to flush out the mud/other stuff...finally, some vindication for my never owning a garage!

Curry Acura is a place I've been very happy making purchases from for you "do it yourselfers".

I negotiated the mud flaps in with my RL purchase 2 months ago. I think the RL looks strange without them- finishes off the look. Same reason every room in my home has crown moulding.

mud flaps

the mudflaps definitely work. They keep all that crappy spray from coming up onto the paint behind the tire. It is really bothersome to clean your car, and go through a small amount of water on the road, maybe from sprinklers, and having you fresh wash ruined. You may get some spray but not as much. I believe they are worth having, and I love the color way the rl has them color matched. It keeps the car looking really good. I have a tl and they are black. I compared and the color matched ones look so much nicer. Next time you buy a car, I would make them give you the mud guards as part of the package. I just say I want the car with the pro pack..

I have found the RL to keep itself pretty clean, without mud flaps. The nice looking conformal Honda mudflaps are famous for actually causing corrosion since the scratch the paint underneath, that was definitely true of all the TL's that had them, check the TL acurazine section. Unless they put some clearbra material beneath the flaps I would definitely NOT recommend them. If you guys have detailed the RL you have noticed that there are strategic portions of the lower vehicle where acura has used 3m type "stuff". I also recommend that those of you that have them take a peek under tham to ensure that its not ruining the paint underneath.

I generally don't keep my cars that long, so this doesn't matter to me. I see your point, but since I keep it less than the warranty period, I get the benefit without any of the side effect..Most cars have mudflaps though. I think they should be standard equipment.
