AT make loud cracking noise when going into reverse

I changed the ATF on my 2005 RL... now the vehicle has a loud crack when I shift to reverse. Vehicle also seem like it is in neutral when the gas pedal is pushed. The Green D flashes when the vehicle is put in reverse. The vehicle then refuses to go into gear to drive or reverse.

uh oh. Green D flashing usually isnt a good sign.

Did you double check to make sure fluid is at the correct level?

I am going to do one more transmission fluid change. The fluids look correct but I will try once more.

Took a look under the vehicle and this is where the noise is coming from. When the Veh goes from park to reverse is when it makes the loud popping noise... sounds bad like metal binding

How many miles ago did you last change the ATF fluid?

I changed it approximately 8,000 ago... come to think of it, the reason I changed it was because of hesitant acceleration... I did a 3x3 and it started driving and accelerating very smoothly. The veh has approximately 190,000 miles on it. It was running like a dream.

This time I checked the ATF and it was low. I drained it all out because it appeared dark and I put in 3 quarts.... It now has the loud cracking noise in reverse and sometime the transmission would not engage.
