Maddening Annoyance

I'm a day-one owner of an 05 RL and have been more than pleased with the performance, quality, and value offered by my most excellent vehicle. However, there is one thing that's about to drive me to distraction and is, quite frankly, annoying the hell out of me. About six months ago I became bluetooth enabled and really enjoy the feature - not only is it utilitarian, its ultra cool and generally works fine with one exception. When I tell it to dial a number that begins with the number "3" it insists it's an "8"! Over and over I repeat, with different tonal inflections, "THREE" and it comes back and says "EIGHT"!!! On rare occasions it recognizes the correct command and delivers the requested "3" but only if I crane my neck close to the overhead console and scream, with perfect pronunciation, "THREE" does it work...This is really pissing me off!!!

Anyone else experience this nuance?

Sometimes it does a better job recognizing what you're saying if you don't yell. Honest.

Funny you should say that. The service advisor gave me a tutorial session on the mic system. Don't be too close to the mic, speak at a normal level, don't have the A/C fan at high speed, don't point the vents at the mic, etc... After that, i've had no problems working the system. Go figure.

Also, fast is better than slow. Do not stop between numbers and do not pause until you finish the number. Normal voice, normal volume without trying to enunciate correctly.

Guys i have a quick question... How do you dial a number via the hands free link?? I've never took advantage of this feature when i had my 05TL and now that i have the RL i would like to take advantage of this. Do the numbers have to be stored in the RL itself, in your phone, or both?

Dialing has nothing to do with your phone. You can either (i) push the HFL button and say "Dial" and then it asks you what number, press again and say "four one two five five five six six zero zero" , it will then display the number on the dash and read it back, you press and say "Call" or "Dial and it goes. Or (ii) you can load up the HFL phonebook in the RL with numbers and voice tags, then just press the button and say "Call Mom" or some such. Note: Avoid SHORT tags. They're most often misunderstood. Best to use a last name, or "Mom at Work" or something like that, because monsyllables, it has problems with.

Put your most frequently used numbers in the directory. The voice command has to be set up for a variety of English speakers, that is why the confusion with some letters and numbers.
