Exclamation Lovin' that AcuraCare already!!

Just got off the phone with the dealer. That nasty, high-pitched whine that started yesterday was the propeller shaft. I'm at 51,350 miles on my '06 RL. So...since the faulty-odometer warranty extension did not apply to RLs, had I not bought the AcuraCare warranty early on, I'd be looking at > $2,000 in repair costs today.

The dealer already checked with Acura--AcuraCare is in force and the repair is approved. The part is in stock too! So I'm doing the happy dance right now.

Unfortunate that Acura has subsequently made it difficult to acquire these warranties freely and at reasonable cost.

You definitely got lucky. And yes, it is very unfortunate that they won't be selling warranties online anymore.

It should have been covered under the basic OEM AcuraCare Warranty and no need for the extended AcuraCare warranty in this situation.

The propellor shaft is a drivetrain component.

The drivetrain warranty is for 6 years or 70,000 miles.

This warranty’s coverage begins on
the same date as the New Vehicle
Limited Warranty (see page 13).
Your powertrain is covered for
6 years or 70,000 miles, whichever
comes first.

Front-Wheel-Drive System
Final drive housing and all internal
parts, driveshafts, constant velocity
joints, front hubs and bearings, seals
and gaskets.

Rear-Wheel-Drive System
Differential housing and all internal
parts, propeller shafts, universal
joints, driveshafts, constant velocity
joints, rear hubs and bearings, seals
and gaskets.

Just to further clarify, the powertrain warranty quoted above is for 2006+ RLs.

I believe 2005 RLs have a shorter OEM AcuraCare Warranty.

Oh my! Forgot about the drivetrain warranty. Tampa, you are correct sir--as usual.

In any case, the deed is done and I am not displeased.

It might be the front axles too. My car was shaking on acceleration and they thought it could be the propeller shaft. They replaced the shaft, then realized it was the axles that had a flat spot.

I cannot remember when they started going bad. I think I made some post on the forum at some point about the whole deal.

Good luck!

The odometer extension was applied to my 2006 RL and I even got a letter from Hoda stating so. Nevertheless, the powertrain warranty should have covered that.
