looking to buy used 05 RL
I am looking to buy a used 05 RL and located in the Cleveland area. I like to get the opinons of the group on this subject.
Is it better to buy the used 2005 RL direct frrom a private owner or from the dealership? Is it possible to buy the used RL from someone on this forum?
Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

You just missed my RL sale. Sorry! I would probably say buying from either dealer or private owner will be fine since they are still so new. Going through the dealer you are likely to pay a little more. Check on ebay as they are going for sale on there a lot, also check cars.com and autotrader.com.
If you watch on ebay you can get a decent one with low miles probably $36-38k. Direct private owner probably $39k and dealer $41k maybe.
Good luck!

I am going to keep looking at the various places you have provided until I can get one for around 35-36K.
Did not realize you have an entire section devoted to matching buyers and sellers.
Thanks for the help!

Beware the super bargain priced cars out there. If an RL is out there really cheap, it may have an accident in it's history or a ton of mileage. Do a thorough check of the history of any car that you are looking at buying.
Regarding who you should buy from, look into the sales tax rules in your area since buying from a private seller may save you paying the sales tax which can be a substantial savings. The other thing to consider is that private sellers are often less experienced at negotiations and may be less likely to talk you into something or grind you for that extra thousand dollars. The good thing about buying from a dealer is that you may be able to get them to throw in some accessories or maintenance to close the deal.
Be sure to look into how much of the warranty is left on the car. As long as the car hasn't been modified (mods are rare on the RL since so few are commercially available), the warranty should be transferable which is your protection against any problems.
Good Luck.

Of course there are exceptions like states with no sales tax. Oregon comes to mind.

If the purchase price stated on the transfer document is too low, they will look up the value and require tax to be paid based on their valuation.
