Long Term Storage Advice

Hey all,

So I'm in a situation where I'll be storing my RL for 4 months at a time, driving it for 2 weeks and storing it for 4 months again for the next two years. The car will spend it's storage time in a warmed garage. Once this 2 years is over, the car will return to normal driving.

I'm familiar with the steps to take for short term storage, as well as what to do when pulling a car out of storage, as I did it last winter with the RL. I intend to do this when cycling it thru the 4 month/2 week cycle.

My question is what to do before I return the car to normal driving in two years? I was thinking of draining coolant/diff/trans fluids on top of the oil once that time comes? Is that enough, or should additional precautions be taken? Any advice would be appreciated!

Something like the sta-bil ethanol treatment, or something else?

I'll take it since no one else has replied that I'm doing things right

4 months is nothing, I wouldnt even use sta-bil myself.

The point of that stuff is so that the fuel doesnt break down and I store ATV/Generator fuel for longer than that with no issue.

Since its in a climate control that eliminates freezing issues.

If you want to be over cautious I would do the following:
- Top off the tank with premium grade fuel
- Put the battery on a tender if you have electricity or remove the battery
- put the car on jack stands to prevent flat spots

When you get home, make sure you run the car through a full tank of gas and re-fill before you store it again.

My main concern since its climate control would be rodents looking for a home, I would put down some type of repellent there more than anything.

Good call on the rodents. I have a friend who had a mouse find a home in his intake box after he chewed through the filter. He didn't make it out the exhaust.

OP, yes, I believe Sta-bil is what I am referring to. The ethanol and gasoline will separate over time and the ethanol will turn to a gel clogging your fuel filter. I have no idea how long that takes to happen though.

Thanks for the sound advice guys, didn't even think of rodent repellant! Any advice for 2 years down the line when it goes back to normal driving? Is just draining all the fluids enough?
