Question LCD Navigation screen glitch?

I am noticing that the LCD screen in the dash of my '05 RL has a tendency to be so dim as to be almost unreadable. This is an intermittent problem, and is most pronounced in the morning or when the car has not been run in a few hours. Typically the screen brightens after driving for a while. My business partner just bought a Cadillac with GPS and an LCD screen. His screen seems brighter than mine, even when mine is operating normally, but that is a very subjective impression.

I wondered whether this is an issue which would disappear after i took care of technical service bulletin upgrades recently, but it is still there. Is it a known glitch? Suggestions?

Thanks for any input.

Mike

First, I assume the screen is set for the "day" mode, correct? (The map color is white?) At any rate, I see you are in MI. It is probably because of the cold weather. It makes it harder for the nav screen to warm up and it takes time to warm up and become fully bright. This is the case with most nav systems, the TL, TSX both do the same thing as well.

The TSBs will not help with this problem.

yep, cold weather will cause the screen to take a while to warm up to its normal brightness...not a glitch but just a fact of LCD in cold weather

This is normal, all my navi equipped vehicles do the same thing when cold out. I believe it has something to do with the liquid crystals and freezing weather.

same thing happed to me in my TL... the opening screen looked really dark when I started the car...

then I realized I left the headlights on (like i always do) and as soon as i turned the headlights off, the opening screen popped up in vibrancy.

felt like an idiot... thought the LCD was going out.
