((( Interior wrapping in carbon fiber )))
((( Interior wrapping in carbon fiber )))
Hi guys, as the title says every since I bought the car I never like the wood color with the black interior. As the mod on my car keeps going and going I've some carbon fiber materials left over. Have someone done it on their RL. What kept me on not doing is the middle air vents is one piece so theres no way the material can tuck in. Give me your thoughts guys.

Shit that just gave me an idea everyone here is doing the cars in colored vinal raps and shit. But there is one cool one I seen it looks like carbon fiber but its all black and you can feel the weave! Call around your area and see if the vinal car wrap guys can do you trim inside. Would look killer and the flat black of it would match great with the stock stuff.
I have already done this, i used the 3M product because the look was sharp with the grain and the satin look but honestly i took it off a week later. I think it looked cheap honestly because of the large dash piece just being way too big for something like this and it discounts the look of the interior on this car IMO. I did the wood trim as well as the trim around the shifter and ill drop you a little hint make sure all your weave is all following in the same direction and pattern. Pay close attention to where the dash continues into the door trim and line your patterns up of you will hate the look. I love the look of the accented door panels but that dash is just far too huge to really flow.
The solution i used after i pulled it was a piano black paint job to match the exterior of my car when i refinished it from blue to black. I think the piano black looks very classy and flows much better than an overly aggressive pattern in the interior, the only complaint i have is the dust shows constantly and finger prints stick out like a sore thumb. Good luck to you either way but hopefully i gave a little helpful insight.

Hi DXplicitOne, if you can shows us photos it will be great for us to have a better vision and will help most of us that been wanting to do this. Completely agreed about the big dash trim, it will look weird with carbon fiber wrapping.
I understand your desire to change it up. I always thought the brown (?) wood look in the black interiors was a little off in pictures. I never saw one in person so I couldn't say first hand. However, I think I agree with DX that a material like that may be even more off. How about leather, or like L said, get it changed to a different design but keep it smooth and shiny like the "black" wood they put in the MMC.
If you do a pattern, make it a solid color. Anything like this won't look right IMHO.

Here is a pic of Kamakaro's '09 Grigio with the "Black" wood. I think it would look pretty slick in a black interior.

OMG that newer RL black woodgrain is SOOO sexy DAYUM! I'm either gona do what Zelaya said and buy a peice a month or find a hydrograph pattern thats very close to that. Its a must now for me. I cant stand the brown wood grain in a black interior car. I cant stand the grey headliner either. Only reason I havent changed it yet is because I did a black suede headliner in my TL and it was a nice peice of work, took forever. Took a while to spray every grey peice black too.
Oh right guys, I went to my local dealer this afternoon and they had a sample of the black color trim. The moment I saw it I was blown away and was sold. Almost handle my credit card to my parts guy but I will buy them piece by piece every month so this will be for my next year project if not sooner. My only concern about hydrographic it might cost me between $600 to $700 dollars with shipping where the parts that I'm getting will cost me another 300.00 so I'd rather spend the extra money and have a complete set and can recover my money faster if I resell them in the future. Once I've all the parts I'll show you guys the photos. Who wants to beat me first???? Maybe you L's TL
how much would it cost to get the OEM parts in that black color?
I agree the black color is nicer... I have a newer MDX and it has that exact color/pattern as the OEM "wood" trim... it looks much more modern than the reddish wood the most of us have...
i thought the price was excessive to buy the OEM pieces though...
it's not something I would personally spend my money on... but if you could change to that black wood color, I do think it would look nice.

the black grain is much better than the brown especially in a black interior for sure but not everybody can justify the huge price tag for such a detail. Ill throw up pics of my dash over the weekend to give another option. If you look closely at the air vents and notice that they are painted with a metallic black and clear coated this is exactly the same color i continued throughout the dash because i didnt want two shades of black there (looks tacky). If that dark grain works out for you fantastic but for some (including myself) in this economy that price tag hurts.
On a serious note, completely understand on others they can't justifying paying that much for it but at the token I like my mods to look classy and sporty and that will cost you. As I mentioned before this is a project that slowly will get the pieces and install it hopefully next year that way I won't feel it

BTW, I've some others stuff coming next week so stay tuned.
Little Update
Hi guys, ended up ordering the passenger and driver side front trim from a 2011 RL model( Black wood ) which was the expensive parts and got them today
. Now I just need to order the door trims. Hopefully I'll have all the parts ready by next month. I think photos are not necessary but can post photos if guys want to see.

Good try though!
Little update
Hi guys, my last 4 pieces arrived this afternoon. I'm getting them install tomorrow. Hopefully I won't encounter any fitting issues. I'll post photos after the install.
Installing today afterwork. Base on the new parts the door panels will need to take apart to install them. Hopefully it won't be a PITA but I'm taking it to my friend body shop. I paid $964.68 for 6 pieces.
I would have to say go with what Carbon Legend says about the 3M Di Noc.
If you go this page on occasions they have some pretty good prices if you were going to wrap the interior. And if you have left over use it on knick nacks. That's what I did with the back of my ipad :o
http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/ is the website to check it out, but i'm sure there are other sellers out there but they got some great deals at times.
Update
Hi guys, the new black wood trim has been installed and it looks beautiful. Sorry for the crappy photos but I'll try taking better photos next time. It was plug and play as far of the install. The doors panel had to be removed to change the side one. Enough with the talking...... Let me know what you think.
