How screwed am I? Pics of oil leaking from transmission

So I'm not sure what part of the transmission this would be, but I keep checking my AT fluid levels and they are above the top circle (which I thought was odd...why is it overfilled ).

Engine oil is fine also.

I got under the car and tooks some pics...it is only at the bottom area of the transmission. I followed up above this area in the pics with my hand to find anymore oil and didn't...so it's only in this area

So is this going to be around $1K to fix...I'm guessing with the murder in maintenance it may

That's the cover panel to the Torque Converter... Oil leaking from there usually is caused by the rear main seal going bad. That's the seal that sits between the engine and transmission where they join together.

I'm afraid it's gonna cost a fortune to fix mainly because of labor. The seal is prob like $20 or so... the Labor will probably exceed $1000, depending on how many hours the job is spec'd at. It requires removal of the transmission to get at the seal.

The transmission fluid sits high when the car is cold. The manual says to only check it when hot for accuracy.

that's just a little sippage, i've seen many cars that have this problem, its not a big deal, you can go the life of ownership without replacing it. Just keep a eye on the fluid and check ur driveway, when u see drippings that when i have an big issue, But a little sippage can go for a long time.

So I should see the result of this drainage eventually when I check the AT fluid level?

Sorry for the stupid question...I'm just used to FWD cars and manual transmissions

Is this the first time you looked here? This could be years of buildup, my transfer case was really dirty/oily but I cleaned it and it looks fine now

I noticed it this weekend and then looked again yesterday. I can see fresh areas where it is about to drip. So I'm assuming it is something currently happening.

Guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

Yeah, that's motor oil for sure. I agree with the other poster, you might consider leaving it and check the oil frequently. The repair can always be done later. How many miles?

lol...no, it's not motor oil...if anything, it's the transmission. My oil has been fine and I haven't had it changed for 5,000 miles. The way it leaks, I'd notice it by now.

Well, I was totally wrong, you were right. It was motor oil. Ended up it was dripping from the oil pan. They tightened the oil pan up and no more dripping
