How many 2005 RL's were produced?

I have stumbled across numbers for years after 2005 and even a few before but I can not find any for the year 2005 online.

So I called Acura client relations and asked them and after being on hold for 7 minutes he came back and thanked me for waiting and then basically told me it was "Proprietary information" and was none of my business.

So I told him to go tell his boss they lost love points today for refusing to answer such a silly question 7 years later.

17,572 US

I do not have Canada nor global LEGEND totals. I remember reading the 2005 target for the RL US was 12,500 and 25,000 worldwide, where worldwide production was in excess of 33,000. Along with the 2005 RL being named '10 Best' from Car & Driver and LEGEND named as 'Japan's Car of the Year' the Saitama plant opened to 3 shifts to keep up with demand. But demand fell off dramatically in 2006 with competitive launches, and hence the resulting overproduction and surplus of 2006 RLs afforded several of here the most exceptional car & deal to date.

"Proprietary Information."

I wish that could have been face to face so he could have seen you laugh.

What a piss poor excuse for, "we don't know."

All carmakers do this stupid stuff. We are having issues on the Cadillac site I frequent with the CTS-V, a relatively rare car. In particular, in 2011, Black Diamond Edition cars were the rarest, but Cadillac refuses to tell anyone how many they made. Further, they will not provide production order. Do these large companies really not keep track of the number they produce? And why is it such a state secret, anyway?

Pretty stupid IMHO.

Reminds me the time I asked this cute hotel employee for her email address so I could keep in contact with her and she told me it was "against company policy" to give out your email address.

I later went and asked a different employee about this "company policy", and she gave me a confused look and basically said that it didn't exist.

As I re-read this thread to grab the number again I just caught that last part and I must remind everyone not to say anything that might imply that _I_ did not get the best deal to date. LMAO!

When I was a supplier to GM our office would receive a hard cover annual edition of "Wards Automotive". I kept a few copies from years back. They give annual production as well as annual sales for each car make and model. Automotive News (weekly paper) also posts production by make and model for all cars produced in NA. It was interesting to see when Cadillac was selling 350,000 cars a year back in 1977-1978 and Chevy was selling in excess of 600,000 Impalas/Caprices and Olds was selling north of 600,000 Cultass Supremes in a single year.

I have a buddy that collects old Lincoln's. I have seen several letters that FoMoCo has sent to him with annual production numbers and even detailed production information for special and limited edition Lincoln's that the old Wixom Mi plant produced.

I guess each car treats this information differently, but the numbers are are out there.

This is what I was able to research from Honda press releases last year. this is actual vehicles sold in the US, not production numbers.

Acura RL Annual Sales

YEAR SALES CUM
2010 2,037 44272
2009 2,043 42235
2008 4,517 40192
2007 6,602 35675
2006 11,501 29073
2005 17,572 this number probably has some 1G in it, but likely not many
2004 Cannot tell how many 2G sold between 10/14 to 12/31
