How long to get your first dent?

Well it finally happened... My first dent! After only 9 days of ownership, I parked my car in the garage today and noticed a crescent indentation on my rear bumper about half an inch in length! Right through the paint down to the bumper. Can't figure out what must have done it- maybe someone parking behind me came up too close and bumped me with their license plates. GAH! Now everytime I look at the car I'll see that mark. I know I can't let one little mark bug me, but does anyone else experience this kind of thing? Trying to baby their car, and being in pain when it gets a dent or ding? Am i taking crazy pills?

Oh I would hate that. My S4 remained pristine for over 5 years except for a gash in the bumper. I'll park half a mile away to get that 'good spot' to prevent door dings

I share your pain! My first major scratch/dent came from a driver misjudging when trying to get around me at a stop light. Two weeks later and a $500+ paint repair it looks as good as new.

Yeah I do the same thing... I just didn't think someone would actually hit my rear bumper on a stretch of road where the were plenty of places to parallel park! I came back to my car today and there was a beater blue piece of junk parked behind me... didn't notice anything at first but when I got home later.... grr.....

Yep.....my RL was "christened" when less than a month old. Parked at the gym, I came outside to find a 12" gash on the front bumper beneath my right side headlight. Fortunately, she left a note. However, she had no insurance. But, $500 later, the repair job looks flawless and I have cash in hand. Things could have been much worse. Keep these things in their proper perspective.

Sorry to hear that - it really sucks for that to happen. I have had my RL since June/July and I havn't had any dings in it YET.. knock on wood. I do, however, have a couple of small paint chips from rocks on the hood

Three days after I got mine, I scraped the bottom lip of the right front bumper on a curb. If I'd had the money, I'd traded the RL for another one that day. The pain I went through for a mere automobile was bizarre. At the first service the dealer brought in a dent man who buffed it out and painted it, making it nearly invisible. It was never visible from above anyway. He didn't take all the scrape out because he said I'd do it again! I've gotten over it...really I have...it doesn't bother me at all...really...

In parking lots, I try and park next to something stationary and far, far away...so, getting lots of exercise.

Agonizing? Arghhhhhh it's gonna take me some time to get over that. It's fine. Really. It's fine. I'm ok. To me it's like a beautiful girl with a long chin hair- darn that ding!

My all time worst christening experience was the purchase of my 1996 Impala back in March of 06. Took 12 weeks to get the car, and within 3 days I had 2 dents!

Dent #1 was opening the door to my 79 caddy parked along side the Impala in my driveway. A sudden gust of wind blew & slammed the door into the front fender of the Impala, right at the crease in the beltline. Arrrrgggg! I was really, really pissed & lost sleep over that.

That very same evening, the severe winds broke a tree limb & that put a very nice golfball
dent into my hood. I was beside myself over these 2 events!

Back in 2001 I picked up my pristine 1998 Lincoln Mark in Fla. in a hotel parking lot in NC, My bumper was indented with someones lic. plate mounting bolts....Arrrgggghhhhh!

That is still the only blemish I have on that car till today!

Oh yea, getting back to my cursed 1996 impala,

In the spring of 1997 we took a ride to spring Carlisle, some kid bringing her cat to the vet wiped out 3/4 of my left side while the car was parked! That was 6.5k worth of damage back then!

2 years later the car was stolen from a corporate office parking lot at my wifes job!
She parked in a video survailance zone, would you believe that camera was innoperative, & no one (if anyone) who knew about ever called it in for service! (It belonged to the property owner who leased the building to corporations)!

That was the end of that nightmare, & the last American car I bought, sadly!

I think it's strange that after paying approx 50K for a car I walk more than I did with my old Thunderbird, because I always park on the far end of the parking lot now.

I was thinking, "If I could just get through not having a dent before I get my license plates on I'll be fine". Well I just put the plates on last night. We'll see what happens today at work.

Yeah, I still don't have mine... just a dent that looks like it's from someone else's license plate bolts.

Month Old and I got a few things.

- 1 chip on the hood
- Small scratch on the passenger 2nd door. (probably going to touch up with paint)
- Scrapped the bottom of the front spoiler. Really annoyed with that, though you can't see it.

Overall, the paint is OK, nothing special.

I would have hoped it would be more durable. Then again, my RL is Nighthawk Black, and everything shows.

no dents yet after close to 11 months.

I dont drive much and try to park away from everyone. In the garage i park in I am on a floor that nobody really parks on. The beauty is I dont have to worry about idiots opening their doors into my car and I get a little bit more exercise.

DAMN! Hit a deer tonight. Not hard, but enough to slightly dent my hood (a little disappointed in the RL's brakes) but sure handled well in a hard stop.

Hope the deer isn't hurt too badly. So to answer your question, one month.

Ouch. Wonder if you can get paintless dent removal service to fix it?

Vik,

We have a service here in Philly (I'm sure most big city areas have them too) called the dent wizard. For $150, he supposedly removes small dents without the need for paint - I'll try it out and report back to everyone...
